Nokia 900 leaked in developer video?

Last February, Nokia made a drastic decision regarding the future of its operating systems by going all-in with Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. While there was a lot of online fallout from both proud Finns and Symbian advocates, Nokia’s new Windows Phones, the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, finally started hitting overseas. The Lumia 800, which shares the same body design as their N9, has been getting rave reviews for the industrial design, but there’s still no word on what’s happening in North America.

Time lapse video from the International Space Station

The video above is comprised of a series of time lapse images taken from the International Space Station over the late summer of this year, then edited and set to music. The camera, known as the “Super Sensitive High Definition TV” or SS-HDTV, works in extremely low light situations, and has managed to capture some detailed visuals of the planet. Whether it’s natural phenomena such auroras and lightning storms, or the vast electrical grid that we as humans have covered the planet with, the footage is nothing less than stunning.

HTC Raider LTE phone hits Bell and Rogers

If you’re going to be surfing on the new high speed LTE networks from Bell or Rogers, you’re going to want a phone that can handle it. That’s where the HTC Raider comes in. The company has announced that the Raider, HTC’s first LTE phone in Canada, will be coming to both Bell and Rogers next month. The phone checks all the other boxes for a high end smartphone as well, with a 4.5″ qHD screen, 1.2GHz dual core processor and an 8 megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for better low light performance and 108op video recording.

Microsoft HoloDesk makes remote Jenga possible

There are few things in life that scream ‘from the future’ like holograms, especially interactive holograms. That’s what Microsoft Research is showing off in this video of their HoloDesk project. At the core is a Kinect and a some head tracking software working in conjunction with a see-through display. It allows users to pick up and manipulate 3D objects, including a virtualized smartphone interface, as well as collaborate remotely.

Tonight marks the start of the 6th annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival, which runs for 8 nights at the Toronto Underground Cinema, with the Canadian horror comedy “Monster Brawl”. Over the years TADFF has grown to become a breakout festival, featuring horror and science fiction films that one may normally not get a chance to see on the big screen.

Ryan talks with Viktor Kalvachev, writer for the Image Comic “Blue Estate”, a deliciously lurid pulp comic with some of the best covers I’ve seen around in a while. Given the twisty nature of the plot, a team of artist take turns drawing different sections of the story. Viktor talks about some of the unique challenges working on a multi-artist book, including supplying maquettes of the main characters so that the artistic team has a similar frame of reference.

Rome Sweet Rome, a sci-fi adventure story that first found life online, has been bought up by Warner Brothers, and destined for the big screen. The story itself was penned by James Erwin, who besides writing flash fiction in response to random questions, is a two time Jeopardy champion. The inspiration? So I’ve been watching HBO’s Rome and Generation Kill simultaneously and it’s lead me to fantasize about traveling back in time with modern troops and equipment to remove that self-righteous little twat Octavian (Augustus) from power. After a long and well-publicized battle with pancreatic cancer, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56. The statement from the board of directors can be read above. Boing Boing has put up a great tribute, in the form of a temporary site redesign that’s worth visiting.

Microsoft’s Zune Music services have always been a very US centric brand, with rumours that it would come to Canada swirling for a couple of years. The last we heard, it was originally going to show up here back in the spring of this year. While the Zune video marketplace has been available in Canada for some time, allowing users to rent and buy TV and film content via their PCs or Xbox 360s, the iTunes competitor has been bereft of, well… tunes, until now.
