Interview with Viktor Kalvachev

Ryan talks with Viktor Kalvachev, writer for the Image Comic “Blue Estate”, a deliciously lurid pulp comic with some of the best covers I’ve seen around in a while. Given the twisty nature of the plot, a team of artist take turns drawing different sections of the story. Viktor talks about some of the unique challenges working on a multi-artist book, including supplying maquettes of the main characters so that the artistic team has a similar frame of reference.

Samurai’s Blood creators at Fan Expo 2011

While at the Image booth during Fan Expo, we had a chance to talk with Owen Wiseman and Nam Kim, writer and artist, respectively, of Samurai’s Blood, a gorgeously drawn samurai revenge tale. Unlike many tales in the genre, especially in comics, Samurai’s lood avoids the more fantasy-based trappings, and weaves a tale more firmly grounded in reality.

Cowboy Ninja Viking review

Writer: AJ Lieberman Artist: Riley Rossmo Publisher: Image Three Kinds of Badass… Literally… When a man tries to sell me a comic book called Cowboy Ninja Viking – about a hero who is a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking, at the same time – you might say that he is working from an advantaged position. When said comic is about a secret project by the US government to weaponise multiple personality disorder in order to create super-soldiers for the war on terror… well, I’m fairly sure my wallet was…

Walking Dead: Zombie School

The folks over at AMC are certainly doing a good job of using the Walking Dead series blog as a production diary.  Besides some of the make up work that they released images of, they’re including more and more behind the scenes featurettes and shorts.  The latest is “Zombie School“, where the zombie extras are actually trained in zombie choreography.  They’ve also put up the first production still (the image above, natch) and you can see the high res version, as well as the video, after the break…

The Walking Dead enters production

It’s no secret that The Walking Dead is one of our favourite ongoing comics here at rgb HQ, so when it was announced a TV series based on it was in the pipeline, we couldn’t be happier.  A TV series based on the book could be potentially awesome, if handled properly, and eveything seems to be lining up in that direction.  Although AMC’s list of original series is short, their track record is impeccable, what with Mad Men, and the best show currently on TV, Breaking Bad.  Breaking Bad in…

AMC greenlights ‘The Walking Dead’ TV series

Following on from the news in January that AMC had ordered the pilot for a TV series of the best genre comic ever, ‘The Walking Dead’, comes the annoncement that a six episode series has been greenlit by AMC. The project has been on a fast track after AMC won a bidding war last August for the rights to the comic.  AMC must have a lot of confidence in Frank Darabont’s vision for the series after greenlighting a whole season while the pilot is still being cast. Hopefully this vision…

AMC TV greenlights ‘The Walking Dead’ Pilot

Last year it was announced that Robert Kirkman’s Image comic‘The Walking Dead’ had been optioned by AMC to be turned into a TV Series. This was great news for many. As an ongoing series on the cable network, it won’t be bound by the same FCC constrictions as the broadcast networks. This should hopefully lead to an authentic adaptation of what our friend Chris at Comics212 (and organizer of TCAF) says was one of the past decades best genre comics. On Wednesday the show took one more shamble closer to…
