SkyDrive updates for PC and Mac / Google Drive launches

Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud storage has been around for a number of years now, providing users with up to 25 GB of free storage, with their Live ID login.  Yesterday, they updated the service by releasing an updated Skydrive application for both Windows (Vista, 7 and 8 ) and Mac OS X (Lion). Once installed and you provide the proper login, the SkyDrive folder simply appears as another folder in Windows Explorer and the Mac Finder, much like other cloud solutions such as DropBox.  The maximum filesize has also recently climbed…

Gateway introduces new All-in-One ZX One PC

Just like their sister company Acer, Gateway has announced the release of a new all-in-one PC design, the ZX One series. The category of all-in-one PC’s has been growing rapidly as consumers are looking for cost effective, space saving computers that can handle every day productivity and home entertainment. While the first generation of all-in-one PC’s were a little under-powered, the price vs. performance ratio of the newest PC components means that the latest models have much better performance. The Gateway One series feature a curved bottom edge to make…

A Visual Guide To Real-Time Strategy

Continuing their great series of infographics, Kotaku posted their latest visual guide to coincide with the launch of StarCraft II. The RTS, or Real-Time Strategy game, has long been a staple genre of PC gaming, and while there have been some console RTS’s, very few of them have been successful. The release of StarCraft II, and its success so far, both critically and commercially, reinforces the fact that the PC has never really gone away as a gaming platform, it’s just lain low for a while. It is only fitting…

Team Fortress 2 now on OS X, FREE this weekend

After Valve’s successful launch of Steam for Mac, this weekend sees the release one of the most anticipated Valve Mac games, Team Fortress 2, where the eternal debate of Mac vs. PC can finally be settled on the digital battlefield (Steam Play supports cross-platform play). The day Ian Fleming invented penicillin. The day scientists invented the moon landing. The day Sir Isaac Newton distracted the policemen investigating his wife’s murder by discovering gravity. All of these historic moments have two things in common. They helped steer the course of human…

Asus O!Play Air – Firmware Updates

Asus has definitely been busy.  Since my last review of the Asus O!Play Air, Asus has released a few firmware updates for it.  The most notable is firmware v1.09 which surprisingly adds Internet accessible content to the O!Play Air.  While it still does not add Youtube support (Asus, please, add YouTube support!!), Asus has provided apps to give access to such sites as Flickr and Picassa.

Asus O!Play Air Review

(Editor’s note: With newer firmware available Dave has taken another look at the functionality of the O!Play. You can catch the newness that is the update here…) I’ve been checking out HD media players lately; mainly because I’m not sold on the future of content being in the form of physical media.  Sony’s Blu-Ray may have won the optical media war, but for an increasing number of people – not just us tech nerds like myself – shiny plastic discs are so last decade as digital distribution takes centre stage. …

OnLive demoed at Columbia University, looks promising

Gamertag Radio recently posted a 48 minute demonstration of OnLive, the cloud gaming platform that many claim is just smoke and mirrors, recorded at a lecture at Columbia University. While final judgement should withheld until the service actually launches – and someone outside the company has tested it in the ‘real’ world, this video goes a long way to proving to me that there is real technology here that will work, and could potentially revolutionize gaming as we know it. However I am not ready to give up local gaming…

Left 4 Dead 2 is out, and is all that and more

Valve unlocked Left for Dead 2 at midnight, on November 17th, for those who pre-ordered, and pre-loaded the game. I somehow forgot this fact, despite having done the former and latter, so the first thing I did when I got home tonight was play the game. Though I have only had time to play a for few hours, it’s defintely going to be my new gaming addiction. As said, in our review of the demo, L4D 2 takes all that you loved from the first game (you did buy the…

8 bit Left 4 Dead. I don’t think Nintendo would have released this…

This, believe it or not, is a real game, coming from EricRuthGames early next year. The flagship title of the PixelForce NES de-makes is Valve’s Left 4 Dead. This game play footage gives you an idea of what the project looks like in action and how it plays. As you can see, it’s a standard top-down 4 directional action/shooter. Remade in the NES retro style, the resolution is at 256 x 240 and features 16 colors and a 4 sound channel soundtrack. Now, let’s just get this out of the…

Awesome trailer for a game I have never heard of until today

Futuremark, creators of the industry standard benchmarking tools 3D Mark and PC Mark, apparently have be working on a game, something that many people would hope they would do, given the quality of the ‘demos’ in their tools. I for one however was totally unaware that this dream had actually become a reality until today, when I saw this trailer. Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. Shattered Horizon is a zero G online only FPS. This is a PC only title, and with graphics like…
