Valve ARG suggests GlaDOS is still alive

Man I love Valve. I mean besides creating one of the best online ecosystems available to gamers in Steam, offering up arguably the best value for gaming maybe ever in Orange Box, and gracing the world with one of, if not the, most unique, entertaining, and challenging puzzle games ever in Portal, they just seem like really, really fun dudes. Take a look at last year’s promo material for the launch of Steam on OSX, particularly the Half Life 2 release. It’s that kind of tongue-in-cheek satirical slant Valve seems…

Left 4 Dead’s Sacrifice not written in stone

When Valve released “The Passing” DLC for Left 4 Dead 2, it was the first time that we got to see the cast of the original L4D in the new game.  We also saw the ultimate fate of one of the original characters, but I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet. The newest DLC for the franchise is called “The Sacrifice”, and will finally fill in that bridge (no pun) between the two, as it will tell the story leading up to “The Passing” from the…

Portal 2 E3 trailer

Portal 2, the oft-teased and well-ARGed sequel to the sleeper hit from Valve, finally got a real teaser trailer.  It’s not much on details, but does feature the ever wry GladOS giving the player a welcome back greeting in her own special way.  It did make it’s premiere at the Sony keynote, suggesting that maybe there’s a bit of a thaw between Gabe Newell and the PS3… we’ll be waiting for some time though, as Portal 2 is looking at a 2011 ship date.

Team Fortress 2 now on OS X, FREE this weekend

After Valve’s successful launch of Steam for Mac, this weekend sees the release one of the most anticipated Valve Mac games, Team Fortress 2, where the eternal debate of Mac vs. PC can finally be settled on the digital battlefield (Steam Play supports cross-platform play). The day Ian Fleming invented penicillin. The day scientists invented the moon landing. The day Sir Isaac Newton distracted the policemen investigating his wife’s murder by discovering gravity. All of these historic moments have two things in common. They helped steer the course of human…

Steam for Mac coming Wednesday, as in tomorrow

It looks like Steam for Mac WILL start rolling out tomorrow, maybe even the real tomorrow, not the Valve Time equivalent, (generally meaning later this week).  With tomorrow’s launch will be the Mac version of Portal, plus the top-down dungeon crawler Torchlight, from Runic Games. It’s also interesting to note that although Team Fortress 2 is listed in the Steam for Mac beta software, and that it’s the graphic Valve has put in an iMac (above), it’s not listed in the initial batch of games to be released.  We’ll just…

Steam For Mac – maybe May 12th

Just a couple of days after speculating that the Mac version of Steam looks like it’s going to miss the initial April launch comes word that this is indeed the case, and will be available May 12th.  For Mac users who haven’t yet delved into the world of Steam on a PC, or aren’t too familiar with Valve release schedules, don’t sweat it. It’s just another case of ‘Valve Time‘, where dates are never as they seem.

Steam For Mac private beta suggests May release date

Valve Software announced last month that their Steam gaming platform would be available for Mac by the end of April, or possibly May.  Although it hasn’t hit wide release yet, it has been in a closed beta for a few weeks.  There’s an exhaustive thread running on the Steam forums, which suggests that a May launch day is likely.  Valve’s official word is still “coming soon”. Steam itself will require OS X 10.5 or higher, while Valve Source games will required Leopard, or Snow Leopard to run.  You can also…

L4D2: The Passing – impressions

After last week’s release of Left 4 Dead 2’s “The Passing”, a couple of us here at rgb have had a chance to run through it and give our impressions. If you haven’t heard of it yet, “The Passing” is a new campaign for L4D2 that not only adds a missing episode between “Dead Center” and “Dark Carnival”. It’s free for PC players and 560 points on Xbox Live. “The Passing” is a little shorter than most campaigns, with 3 chapters instead of the normal 5, and an average playthrough…

The new chapter for Left 4 Dead 2, The Passing, is being released today on the 360 and PC. Finally the cast of Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 get to meet, and in the trailer above Francis and Rochelle get their hate on together.
