Gateway DX4840-15c: a desktop for some of us

So you’re wondering, “Why is rgbFilter running a review of a desktop system?” As devout proponents of nomadic computing why should we even consider these anachronistic mainframe-wannabe boat anchors? Why? Because. Because we are fans of that implausible trinity, the Good, the Fast and the Cheap. This one came very close. I’m going to be a little sorry to see this review model sent back to its maker. Here’s a quick look at what it has inside: Processor Type: Intel Core i5 650- Dual Core Processor Speed: 3.2GHz RAM: 6GB…

Gateway introduces new All-in-One ZX One PC

Just like their sister company Acer, Gateway has announced the release of a new all-in-one PC design, the ZX One series. The category of all-in-one PC’s has been growing rapidly as consumers are looking for cost effective, space saving computers that can handle every day productivity and home entertainment. While the first generation of all-in-one PC’s were a little under-powered, the price vs. performance ratio of the newest PC components means that the latest models have much better performance. The Gateway One series feature a curved bottom edge to make…

Gateway ID59 laptop review

The Gateway ID59 has a glowing touchpad.  I thought I should mention this, because Gateway apparently thinks it’s very important.  So important that the laptop arrived with a huge sticky label hanging from the screen, informing me of this feature.  You can imagine my excitement. Still, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.  First things first, build quality and initial impressions. Honestly?  It looks good.  I’ll definitely credit Gateway with a great job on the overall design. Simple and sleek with clean lines, and an unobtrusive logo set off to one…

Gateway launches new LT32 and LT22 Netbooks in Canada

Gateway, the sister company of the world’s number 2 PC maker Acer, has just announced two new netbooks, the LT32 & LT22. Gateway launches new ID Series Notebook

Gateway has just announced the ID Series of notebooks, with silver shells and a funky blue touchpad that glows when touched.  The silver casing actually appears to be quite understated in the provided photos.  The 3 models all sport Ultrabright LED-backlit displays, and vary in size from 14 to 17.3 inches. The smaller ID49 (14 inch) and ID59 (15.6 inch) share very similar specs with Core i3 and Core i5 options, 4GB of memory (expandable to 8GB)  and 1366×768 resolution displays.  Some models will also include the Nvidia Optimus technology,…

So you wanna buy a Netbook.

Recently I was in the market for a new laptop computer. I was going to be travelling in the near future and I needed something I could carry around with me. It didn’t need to be a workhorse or anything; just something with which I could stay connected for email, internet, write a few blog posts, and maybe watch some episodes of Burn Notice on in my down time. Having no desire to lug around my tank-like Macbook Pro for these meagre tasks, I made my way to Best Buy…
