Starcraft II is here, and you can win a copy

rgbFilter is celebrating the release of the game by giving away two copies of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, in conjunction with Future Shop. Just leave a comment after the break, and we will randomly pick the winners. The entries have been tallied!

Congratulations to unokilo321 and heimp!

Today marked the release of Blizzard’s long awaited sequel to Starcraft, first released in 1997, and probably the most successful RTS game of all time. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty has been in development since 2003, but was only formally announced in 2007. Even then, Blizzard’s obsessive attention to detail has meant that it took another three years for the game to arrive on shelves.

To celebrate the launch of the game, many stores across North American held midnight release parties. Here in Canada both Future Shop and Best Buy opened their stores at 12.01 AM this morning to the hordes of Blizzard fans. We were there to catch the excitement at the clock ticked closer to twelve, in pictures and on video. The video will be posted soon, so check back for it.

As a die-hard PC gamer, it was great to see long lines of people waiting for a PC game, rather than a console title. However it was interesting to see so many people lining up for a physically boxed game, when reports are showing that digital downloads are almost at parity with retail, and will soon probably overtake it. Of course if you buy your copy of the game online you won’t get all the goodies found in the Collector’s Edition.

If you can’t wait to play the game, you can head over to Future Shop and pick up a copy now.

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is both PC & Mac compatible out of the box, and it is $59.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for the Collector’s Edition.

The rules are pretty straight forward:

  • Leave a comment in this post. Anything will do, but hey, there’s no reason you can’t keep it clean. Don’t worry if the comment doesn’t show up, especially if you’re not a registered user, as there’s a spam catcher that’s pretty aggressive.
  • Comments must be posted by 11:59pm Eastern, Friday July 30th, 2010.
  • You only need to post once, multiple posts from the same account will be ignored
  • The winner will be chosen by random.
  • We will contact you by email to get you address and Future Shop will send you a copy of the game.
  • Open to Canadian residents 18 years of age or older.
  • Members of RGB Filter, employees of Future Shop, and their families are excluded.
