Toronto developer Longbow Games was on hand at Fan Expo demonstrating and selling their new real time strategy game Hegemony: Philip of Macedon. Developed by a staggeringly small team of about 5 people, the game maps out a huge area around ancient Greece, and includes a smooth zooming engine for navigating between field level battles to overall strategies. Longbow president Jim McNally was kind enough to talk to us in detail not only about Hegemony, but the challenges and opportunities that arise in a small game development house.

Continuing their great series of infographics, Kotaku posted their latest visual guide to coincide with the launch of StarCraft II. The RTS, or Real-Time Strategy game, has long been a staple genre of PC gaming, and while there have been some console RTS’s, very few of them have been successful. Built on their first release, the Zombie Outbreak Simulator, Binary Space has release their first game, the Zombie RTS Class 3 Outbreak. The game is a browser based flash game, running over Google maps, where you control 3 squads of police to try to hold back a zombie invasion.
