Fan Expo 2010 – Geoff Lapaire Interview

To round out our Pure Pwnage coverage from Fan Expo 2010, we return to Geoff Lapaire, who earlier gave us a sneak peek at the official Pure Pwnage Android app.  Although he doesn’t name the location, the Pure Pwnage TV show has been picked up in another market. Alex talks with him about working on the TV series compared to the web show, and where things stand with the second season of the TV show.  On that subject, they have two episodes scripted, and are still waiting to get the…

Fan Expo 2010 – Tahmoh Penikett & Dean Stockwell

It’s a  Sunday afternoon two four, as Peter had a chance to take a couple of minutes each with Tahmoh Penikett and Dean Stockwell over int the signing area during Fan Expo.  Why are these posted together? Well, because it represents both the human and cylon factions of Battlestar Galactica, of course. You can catch the Dean Stockwell interview after the break…

Fan Expo 2010 – Jarett Cale Interview

Every time we get a chance to talk to the guys from Pure Pwnage, it’s always a blast.  We catch up with Jarett Cale at Fan Expo this year, to talk about what’s happening with season 2 of the TV series, and where the web series stands… “Honestly, it’s a bit depressing working on the web series, having to rewrite because of what happened to Troy and being able to have the ending we originally envisioned.  So I get kind of bummed out, so I work in small intervals, I…

Fan Expo 2010 – Pressure valve

As we briefly touched on in our initial Fan Expo write up, the convention was overcrowded this year, with attendance up by about 10,000 people.  It didn’t help that Expo was moved from the larger south building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, to the north, which has approximately 20% LESS square footage. The intention of Hobbystar all along was to keep it in the south building.  After all, Fan Expo moved from the north to the south a few years back precisely because of increasing attendance.  This year, however,…

Pure Pwnage Android app l33t Speaker beta demonstrated

At Fan Expo, Geoff Lapaire of Pure Pwnage was kind enough to give us a look at the still-in-beta app that they’re developing for Android phones (an update to the already available iPhone app).  The soundboard app, l33t Speaker, will have both basic and Pro versions, and Geoff shows it off on his Nexus One.  The soundboard is a popular app category, but sound quality can sometimes be an issue.  Since this is an official app, not only is the sound quality going to be top notch, but they’ve actually…

Fan Expo 2010 – The Big Crunch

With the end of the last weekend of August comes the end of Fan Expo, by far the largest gathering of fans from across the geek spectrum in Canada, and third largest in North America. 2010 also marks the third year that we at RGB Filter have stormed the gates with video cameras and mics in hand to interview artists, writers, game designers and the occasional geek celebrity, meaning that I’m personally looking at about 6 hours of footage to pour through. One of the consistent highlights of Fan Expo…

Walking Dead trailer from San Diego Comic Con

The makers of The Walking Dead TV series, on AMC, screened the first official trailer at the San Diego Comic Con this year, and at least one person in attendance managed to record it and put it up on YouTube. Though it’s a cam, the trailer holds up and it looks like they’re getting everything right. Also AMC posted some great pictures today from Comic-Con, where the show and cast made a big splash. You can check them out here. Lastly you can catch AMC’s The Walking Dead Motion Comic…

Walking Dead dispatches

AMC and the producers of The Walking Dead are managing to keep fans updated on the series production almost daily. In the latest round, there are a couple of notable interviews on the official blog, including one with producer Gale Anne Hurd of The Terminator and Aliens fame, as well as the director of the second episode, Michelle MacLaren (who also directed, among others, the 3rd season opener for the brilliant Breaking Bad). The really good news is that Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic series, appears to be very…

Netflix in Canada fall 2010

When it comes to digital content distribution, the United States has had a huge jump on other countries, largely because most of the big distributors have all been US companies.  When Netflix first started out, it was a DVD subscription service, but they quickly embraced the digital distribution via subscription model.  This has made the company the go-to service for not only movies but television distributed online. After years of expecting a Canadian company would pick up the ball, it appears that Netflix itself has managed to wrangle a deal…

There’s a TV for that – Samsung’s Connected TV message

First shown off at CES back in January, it appears that Samsung is ready to make a huge push in the TV market with their web applications on newer model TV sets and Blu Ray players, under the name ‘Samsung Apps‘, not to be confused with the mobile phone Samsung Apps.   To sell the point to consumers, they’re making a play on Apple’s “There’s an app for that” iPhone advertising, which, while not the most original approach, will probably resonate with consumers used to the ubiquitous phrase.  This is…
