World War Z trailer launches, unfortunately

After moving back the release of World War Z from December to the summer of 2013, it’s not surprising that the trailer is getting a lot of buzz.  Too bad that before the end of the first minute of the trailer, I already didn’t give a crap. The trailer opens with Brad Pitt and his family stuck in NYC gridlock.  Every lane is packed with cars, and Brad Pitt gets out to see what’s going on.  There’s an explosion far up ahead… so far so good.  Something ominous, and unexplained fireworks in…

Gears Of War 3 launch party challenge

With Gears Of War 3 less than three weeks away from launching, a new trailer tracing the story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad has been released. Gears 3 has already seen an unprecedented 1.3 million preorders, making it the fastest pre-sold exclusive for the Xbox 360 platform, and the same number of players spent more the 20 million hours fragging the enemy in the multiplayer beta a few months back.

Fable III “Revolution” trailer launches

In less than two weeks (or Oct 26), Fable III launches for the Xbox 360, continuing the adventures in Albion. This time, your character plays a revolutionary who becomes leader, and the decisions you make along the way. In our in-depth interview with Lionhead creative director Josh Atkins, he mentions that one of the goals of the game was to have the players actually put down the controls to consider their moral decisions. The trailer itself eschews gameplay to focus on the atmosphere of the game.  The combination of music…

Halo: Reach – Deliver Hope live action trailer

With less than a month to go until Halo: Reach hits store shelves, wrapping up Bungie’s involvement with the seminal Xbox franchise, new live action trailers have been coming out on a regular basis.  Besides making a great game in its own right, the live action trailers are effective at delivering an emotional impact, and for me, always leave me saying… “Movie please?” Catch the earlier Hybrid live trailer after the break…

Irrational Games reveal their latest game – Bioshock Infinite

I loved System Shock 2. Created by Irrational Games, it was one of the scariest and most immersive games ever made. It is also one of my all-time favourites, and boy did its ‘spiritual successor’, System Shock Lite…Oh sorry, Bioshock, disappoint. Today, Irrational Games announced their latest game, Bioshock Infinite. After my hopes were dashed that Ken Levine, the mind behind Irrational, wasn’t going to be working on the X-Com reboot (another of my top 10 games of all time), I was hoping that ‘Project Icarus’ was going to be…

Halo: Reach – The Battle Begins trailer

A new trailer was launched today for Halo: Reach, and this time around, it’s focusing more on the dramatic elements than the multiplayer gameplay.  Although thoroughly impressed with the multiplayer beta that came out in the spring, it’s good to see some more focus on the single player story.  Gamers have logged millions of hours of game time on the Xbox Live servers, but for me, the Halo series has always been about the epic space opera.  There are few game franchises that manage to capture that sense of scale…

Walking Dead trailer from San Diego Comic Con

The makers of The Walking Dead TV series, on AMC, screened the first official trailer at the San Diego Comic Con this year, and at least one person in attendance managed to record it and put it up on YouTube. Though it’s a cam, the trailer holds up and it looks like they’re getting everything right. Also AMC posted some great pictures today from Comic-Con, where the show and cast made a big splash. You can check them out here. Lastly you can catch AMC’s The Walking Dead Motion Comic…

The Social Network – trailer

We don’t post a lot of movie trailers here, but the first full length trailer for David Fincher’s “The Social Network”, about the rise of Facebook, is certainly worth it, just from a craftsmanship point of view.  The choice of a choral version of “Creep” by Radiohead is brilliant.  It also helps that the script (from the novel by Ben Mezrich) is written by the master of behind-the-scenes walking – talking character dramas, Aaron Sorkin.

Halo: Reach E3 2010 Campaign Trailer

One of the highlights from today’s Microsoft was also the swan song for the Microsoft/Bungie relationship. Even though Halo: Reach has been known to be the last game in the Halo universe from Bungie (Microsoft still owns the IP), it looks like the venerable developer is going out with a bang. The prequel to the Halo story, about the fall of Reach, will introduce space combat for the first time. Halo: Reach should hit stores Sept 14th, 2010

Crackdown animated part 3 “The Virus: What We Know” released

With the release of Crackdown 2 just a few weeks away (our hands on, and interview is here), the third part in the animated series, has hit YouTube.  This time around we’re treated to a public service announcement narrated by the Voice of the Agency himself, warning the population of the deadly Freak virus. It’s all part of laying the groundwork for the backstory of the game.  Of course, in the PSA, they lay the blame for the virus on one Catalina Thorne.  Having played the first Crackdown, I’d say…
