Left 4 Dead’s Sacrifice not written in stone

When Valve released “The Passing” DLC for Left 4 Dead 2, it was the first time that we got to see the cast of the original L4D in the new game.  We also saw the ultimate fate of one of the original characters, but I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet.

The newest DLC for the franchise is called “The Sacrifice”, and will finally fill in that bridge (no pun) between the two, as it will tell the story leading up to “The Passing” from the original survivors point of view.  The other bonus about sacrifice is that it will be available for both the original Left 4 Dead and the sequel, meaning that the original characters have officially been ported over to the new engine.  There’s no hint that we’ll be able to use them in campaigns outside of The Sacrifice.

The DLC will also bring No Mercy, the original Left 4 Dead’s first campaign, into the Left 4 Dead 2.  It’s not surprising, as No Mercy is the most popular (in game play time) campaign from the original game.  It’s also possibly my favourite end level to any campaign in either game, though I am kind of partial to the big rock-show-down at the end of “Dark Carnival” in Left 4 Dead 2 as well.  Valve will also be releasing a 150 page digital comic (no word on what format that will be) to tie in with the launch of the new DLC.

Possible SPOILER below.

Instead of the predetermined demise of Bill provided by “The Passing”, players will be able to decide which of the original survivors well, becomes a survivor no more.  It’ll be interesting to see if Valve gathers that particular stat to see which character is least popular, or whether players will use the mechanism to vote who did the worst job on the map.  In either case, I suspect there’ll be an achievement for offering oneself up for a suicide mission.

  1. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious
what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours
would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100% sure.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
