Child of Eden preview

Our time spent with Child Of Eden was similarly engrossing, and even surpasses its predecessor in many ways. While the ‘inside the network’ storyline continues, visually the game is more lush, replacing many of the vector outlines with vibrant colours. The blending of audio and video carries over from Rez, and playing it on Kinect brings even more to the game.

SOCOM 4 Preview – I traveled 4000km to play it

Recently Zipper Interactive invited me, as a fan of their SOCOM franchise, down to their studio in Redmond, Washington to check out the upcoming SOCOM 4 – releasing on PS3 April 19th. After having a few days to digest the entire event and what I had played I have come away with a very positive outlook on how this game will turn out. I’m in the unique situation of being one of those people who have sunk over a thousand hours into the SOCOM franchise since the original released in…

Duty Calls walkthough video

Maybe it’s my lack of enthusiasm for the Call Of Duty franchise, or ‘real world’ first person shooters in general, but the above parody hit the nail on the head. On a related matter, if you haven’t yet tried the demo for Bulletstom, I can’t recommend it highly enough. The general mayhem in the demo suggests that unless Duke Nukem can bring his A game in the humour department, over the top FPS fun may have a new king.

At the TIFF Lightbox with the Hand Eye Society

The Hand Eye Society held the Arcadian Renaissance a while back TIFF Bell Lightbox.  On hand was a bank of arcade cabinets loaded with a number of great indie games, no quarters required .  The main event of the evening was an exciting, big-screen NIDHOGG tournament. Every time I see or play NIDHOGG,  I just wish I had it at home.  It’s a 150 proof distillation of 1 on 1 competitive gaming.  rgbFilter.com was on scene…

Rogers today held their TabLife event, which invited a series of speakers to discuss the future of tablet computing in both the consumer and enterprise markets, obviously from a Rogers perspective.  David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects at Research In Motion was on hand to demo the new Blackberry PlayBook and field some questions from the attendees. This short video shows the 7 inch PlayBook in action.  While not yet optimized for dual core processing it nevertheless managed to show off it’s multitasking features rather well.  While playing a…

Unboxing Boxee Box – initial impressions

After what seemed like forever, Boxee Box by D-Link finally hit retail shelves on Wednesday, and being a big fan of the software, I made sure I was there to get one.  I didn’t have the official RGB Filter HD camera on hand, so I fired up my point n shoot with 720p, to give you a look at it, and the much anticipated remote with QWERTY keyboard built into it.  I was going to call this one “A look at what’s inside the Boxee Box box, when unboxed”, but…

Fallout New Vegas Magic Karma Pot

Fallout New Vegas is a wonderful and at times frustrating time sink, and earning enough bottlecaps to afford all the items you need is an ongoing effort. If you’re like thousands of others scattered over the Mojave Wastelands, looking for a way to get by without having to earn your bottlecaps, you’ve probably turned to the chore of gambling, and even the best of you have probably been tempted to ‘steal’ the occasional item from a home or shop. Well, thanks to the easy demonstration below by YouTube user Erozlol,…

Rogers Samsung Focus: Hands On Video

When Windows Phone 7 launches in North America in early November, Rogers will be carrying the Samsung Focus, which is the thinnest of the launch devices.  The Focus is very much in the styling of Samsung’s Galaxy S Android phones, including the absolutely stunning 4 inch Super AMOLED screen.  One of the other traits the Focus carries over from the Galaxy S line is the light, plastic body.

LG Optimus Quantum Hands On: video

We take a look at the LG Optimus Quantum Windows Phone 7 device with a slideout landscape QWERTY keyboard.  The slide mechanism, while a bit stiff, also feels very solid, and still doable with one hand.  When holding it in landscape mode, LG made sure that the screen portion was nice and light, so that there’s a solid balance while typing.  In fact, when we first got our hands on the Optimus Quantum, it barely registered as a slider. The keyboard itself ranks up there with the HTC Touch Pro…

LG Windows Phone 7 – Optimus 7 and Quantum Hands On Video

At a recent LG event, we got some hands on time with LG’s two Windows Phone 7 devices headed towards the Canadian market, the LG Optimus 7 slate style phone on Telus, and the LG Optimus Quantum QWERTY slider on Bell. Both phones sport 16GB of RAM and 1GHz processors, with the real differentiator between the two being the choice of keyboard or not.  The Optimus 7 has a 3.8″ screen, while the keyboard packing Optimus Quantum has a slightly smaller 3.5″ screen. During our demonstration, Frank Lee of LG…

Halloween Video Playlist Part 1

What will you be watching on Halloween? As a ramp up to All Hallows Eve here is the first in a series of suggestions… If classic science fiction deals with the question, “What if?” then the steam-punk or historical revisionist work amuses itself with, “If only…” When H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu” was published in Weird Tales in 1926, the technology existed to make a silent movie of it, if only anyone had  been so inclined. In 2003, a group of H.P. Lovecraft fanatics; a live action role-playing group…
