Rogers Samsung Focus: Hands On Video

When Windows Phone 7 launches in North America in early November, Rogers will be carrying the Samsung Focus, which is the thinnest of the launch devices.  The Focus is very much in the styling of Samsung’s Galaxy S Android phones, including the absolutely stunning 4 inch Super AMOLED screen.  One of the other traits the Focus carries over from the Galaxy S line is the light, plastic body.

Windows Phone 7 in Canada: What We Know So Far

Today marked the big reveal of Microsoft’s reboot of it’s mobile strategy with Windows Phone 7. At 9.30 AM EST Microsoft finally pulled the covers off for the world to see the initial phones that will be available at launch (November 8th in North America), though much of the OS has already been shown in great detail prior to today. My first reaction was that the handset selection is a little slim, and there is not much innovation beyond the base ‘chassis 1’ specifications. However this is a launch of…

Fido goes Android with the Acer Liquid E

Fido has added the Acer Liquid e to their smartphone line up.  When we took a look at the phone on Rogers in the bygone era of earlier this summer, we were suitably impressed with the performance, for a relatively low cost.  On Fido, the phone is even cheaper, at only $30 with a 3 year contract. For that price you’re getting a fairly clean Android 2.1 install on a 3.5 inch 800 x 400 resolution screen.  When we reviewed it, we summed it up thusly: The Acer Liquid E…

Rogers Samsung Wave review

Samsung, who’s been a contender in the mobile and smartphone market for some time, has recently kicked it up a notch.  Their line of Android based Galaxy S phones, which have launched on multiple carriers internationally, have been getting great reviews.  Just a week or so ago they announced their Galaxy Tab, a 7 inch tablet also running Android, which is due to hit multiple markets by the time November rolls around. With all this Android love, one has to ask “What’s up with this Samsung Wave?” After trying it…

Telus LG Shine Plus – sneak peak video

A little while back, we got a chance to take a look at the Telus version of the LG Shine Plus, aka the LG Ally in the US.  This model of the Shine Plus is unique to Telus, and can now be found on their website.   The new smartphone sports a landscape slide out QWERTY keyboard, and a largely brushed metal body.  Though the processor may be a little underpowered compared to its 1 GHz competitors, the Shine Plus runs Android 2.1 very smoothly, and Telus is talking with LG…

Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate coming soon, “Register today to receive updates”

It was perfect timing: Rogers, hoping to steal a little of the thunder from Bell and Virgin with their big Galaxy S launch concert with Metric, announced their version of the Galaxy S, the Captivate (already available in the US on AT&T), the same day, August 4th 2010. While I was already pretty excited about the Galaxy S by the day of the concert, having already got to use one for a few days by then, the Rogers news was even better.  The Bell Galaxy S Vibrant is a great…

Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Launch Concert featuring Metric

Wednesday August 4th: I am running late, so I’m pushing my way through the huge crowd that has gathered on Toronto’s Front Street to see a free Metric concert sponsored by Samsung. I want to get as close to the stage as possible to cover the show, but I have no idea how I’ll be able to maneuver through the crowd to get there. Thankfully there’s a fenced off VIP area that I have press access to, so in the end I manage to get some great pictures of the…

Telus HTC Desire launches

I think that Friday August 6th 2010 can unofficially be labeled Android day in Canada.  That’s because Telus has officially launched HTC’s latest superphone, the HTC Desire, sporting the latest version of HTC Sense.  It’s also a harbinger of a possible price war to come, as it’s a solid 1GHz processor priced at $79.99, which is more than competitive with other high end phones. The new phone comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera (with flash), and a 3.7″ 800 x 480 screen.  We had a chance to…

I have a Double Rainbow moment with a Galaxy S phone and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

UPDATE – The video above is in HD. My initial post of this had the incorrect SD feed. WOW! OMG Double Rainbow, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS parked near my office, shot in HD, with the Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant super-phone. The footage above is raw unedited video from the Galaxy S, which is pretty good quality for a phone. You can also download the ORIGINAL HD 3gp clip here ~ 80MB, so you can see EXACTLY how the video looks direct from the phone. You can probably tell…

Bell Galaxy S Vibrant super-phone unboxing video and pictures

Samsung and Bell were nice enough to send us a Galaxy S Vibrant a week early. Above is our unboxing of this new Android super-phone, and you can see a gallery of stills after the jump. We should be posting our full review sometime next week, but my initial impressions, after a week of use, are very very favourable – I love this phone! The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant is available now from Bell for $149.95 on a 3-year term. As a bonus if you buy a Galaxy S from…

Bell Galaxy S launches tomorrow with event at Yonge and Eglinton

The new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant super-phone launches tomorrow on Bell. After last nights amazing Metric street concert, put on by Samsung in Toronto to promote the phone, the interest in this Android phone is very high. Bell has released the pricing details, and will it will be $149.95 on a 3-year term, $499.95 no contract, which are very good prices for such a powerful phone. With it’s super AMOLED 4″ screen, fast processor, and 16GB of storage, it compares very favorably to the iPhone 4, but is much better…
