Mobilicity and Wind offering $45 unlimited plans

Wind Mobile and Mobilicity have been fighting tooth and nail for customers dissatisfied with the Big Three.  Given Canadian love-hate relationships with Bell/Rogers/Telus, there’s a large pool to draw from.  The latest volley was started by Mobilicity, which introduced a $45 unlimited plan that includes North America wide calling, data, and global text messaging. Not to be outdone, Wind Mobile has also introduced their Winter Wonder Plan, which has the same $45 price tag, and a similar set of features, though unlimited calling is limited to Canada, while Picture Messaging…

Mobilicity calls out Chatr

Although it wasn’t the first of the new entrants to Canada’s mobile carrier scene, Mobilicity certainly is becoming the most outspoken. According to a Globe and Mail article earlier today, the new wireless carrier has made good on its promise to take official action against the Rogers Chatr brand.  Mobilicty Chairman John Bitove first started rumbling about violations against the Competition Act back in July when Rogers Chatr brand pricing leaked online. On Wednesday, Mobilicity made good on that promise, sending an e-mail to reporters that “late last week Mobilicity’s…

The service will be available in in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Vancouver, and will be expanding to Montreal in the fall. Samsung Galaxy S coming to Telus too?

UPDATE – According to MobileSyrup, the Telus Galaxy in question is actually going to be the mid-range Galaxy Apollo. Hopes dashed. When Samsung announced the launch in Canada of the Galaxy S ‘Superphone’, on Bell, they also said that “Canadian consumers can anticipate the release of additional Galaxy S smartphones throughout the rest of 2010.” Well, it looks like Telus might be the first carrier to have one of these ‘additional’ Galaxy S phones. On Howard Forums, one of the internet’s best discussion groups for phone geeks, the image above…

Mobilicity officially announces their plans, and they’re pretty good

Mobilicity is the latest of the new mobile carriers to officially announce their plans in the Canadian marketplace. As we mentioned before, Mobilicity (should be launching in June has offiically opened it’s doors).  Yesterday they launched their site, phone line up and plans, which include an all-you-can eat option for $65/month. Like Wind Mobile, who was first out of the gate after the spectrum auction, Mobilicity advertises the fact that there are no contacts, no hidden fees and no subsidized phones. The only thing extra on your bill is taxes….

Mobilicity coming in June, with unlimited plan

According to the Globe and Mail, Mobilicity will be launching in Toronto at some point in June, and along with it an unlimited plan at a flat $65, which will include long-distance and data.  There is no actual confirmation of this, but it does seem like a likely time to launch. “We’ve been very tight-lipped about our launch date for very specific reasons. It’s a very competitive market out there,” Mr. Dobbin said. “However, we are measuring time to launch in weeks and days, not months any more.” Dave Dobbin,…

Mobilicity clears CRTC hurdle – launching ‘spring’

Though the imminent launch of Mobilicity this spring has been more or less known for a couple of months, they still had to meet the ownership regulations of the CRTC.  Well, it looks as if, after a little bit of tweaking of their shareholder agreement, they’ll be cleared to go. As such, the Commission finds that, upon completion of the required modifications to the Shareholder Agreement set out in the Appendix to this decision, DAVE Wireless will be Canadian‑owned and controlled, meeting the requirements set out in section 16 of…

Mobilicity to launch this spring

Data & Audio-Visual Enterprises aka DAVE Wireless, has announced that when they launch their new wireless service in Toronto this spring, it’ll be under the much more consumer friendly Mobilicity brand, a contraction of ‘Mobile’ and ‘Simplicity’.  According to their homepage, if you say it fast it sounds like “Moblissity”, but that remains to be seen. Instead of being a national carrier, they plan on focusing on those who ‘live, work and play’ in Canada’s major cities. Some time this spring, Toronto will be the first to get a chance…
