Mobilicity and Wind offering $45 unlimited plans

Wind Mobile and Mobilicity have been fighting tooth and nail for customers dissatisfied with the Big Three.  Given Canadian love-hate relationships with Bell/Rogers/Telus, there’s a large pool to draw from.  The latest volley was started by Mobilicity, which introduced a $45 unlimited plan that includes North America wide calling, data, and global text messaging.

Not to be outdone, Wind Mobile has also introduced their Winter Wonder Plan, which has the same $45 price tag, and a similar set of features, though unlimited calling is limited to Canada, while Picture Messaging is unlimited across North America.  Neither Wind nor Mobilicity’s plans include tethering, but they do include BlackBerry Internet Services.

The new $45 plans are about $20 cheaper than similar plans without the discounting.  Let’s hope the increased competition will not only keep them low, but put more pressure on the big carriers to follow suit in the long run.
