rgbFilter’s “OMG the World Is Officially Losing Its Mind” post, or, NAMBLA

So let’s see, what’s going on in the news today. Well, there’s Iran, Iran, Iran, garbage strike, Iran, Iran…Yup, seems like pretty standard fare.

…Oh what’s this on the cover? Michael Jackson? Dead? STFU!!

Yes, unless you’ve been under a rock, on a cave, on the moon, orbiting Jupiter, you know that the “King of Pop” suffered a fatal heart attack on June 25, thereby relieving the world of one of its most influential artists of a bygone era while simultaneously causing the entire planet to lose its shit. If you’re old enough you’ll remember the Princess Diana debacle, in which every industry on Earth was ground to a rusty halt to mourn the passing of the ex-Princess of Wales.

It seems the world has a soft spot for the passing of people with regal titles before their names.

I’m not going to use this forum to eulogize Jackson; suffice to say, it wouldn’t be appropriate. But I do want to ask one question: Someone PLEASE tell me this is a fakie:

nambla

This posting appeared on the Philidelphia Craigslist board today. (I’m posting as a JPEG because there’s a teardown notice attached to it and it will likely be gone by the time I finish this post.)

Normally this is the kind of stupid garbage that I would completely ignore, but considering NAMBLA is considered a genuine organization, with all the rights and privileges thereto, well…it’s possible. Add to that the fact that NAMBLA has stepped forward in the past to voice its support of the Moonwalker during his more troubling times, and you have the potential for a 24′ bronze clusterfuck erected in the middle of the Washington Mall.

This is one of those cases in which my judgement gets a little clouded, I’ll admit, and my hard and fast stance of “While I Do Not Support What You Say I Will Defend To The Death Your Right To Say It” enters a moral gray area. But defend or support the organization all you want…the idea of NAMBLA erecting an MJ memorial is wrong, on SO VERY MANY levels.

And if that makes me a hypocrite, then dammit, I’m a very proud hypocrite.
