Guitar Hero: World Tour wants you to be a real Rock Ban…um, musician.

Logitech is taking a step into the Real Zone with their Premiere Edition guitar for Guitar Hero: World Tour.

This Premiere Edition peripheral features a wooden neck, rosewood fingerboard, metal frets, metal tuning pegs, a one-piece contoured shape and crimson body.

More importantly, for us at least, are quiet buttons – using some noise-reducing rubber keyboard technology – and a touch-sensitive neck slider. (eurogamer)

At $249, the peripheral might be considered pricey to some, but will probably become an instant must-have classic for the hardcores.

This new controller continues the trend of rock-star-like realism in gaming started by the guys at Mad Catz and Ion, who have made guitar and drum controllers for Rock Band 2. First, Mad Catz brought us the real, life-size Fender Stratocaster controller (an actual Strat gutted and modded for the game). ION Audio, a company that specializes in digital audio equipment including real digital drum kits, soon followed up with the ION Drum Rocker, the as-real-as-it’s-ever-gonna-get Rock Band kit for the hardcore drummer. Each of the above hovers around the $300 mark.

The Mad Catz guitar will be available in early 2009, meaning I won’t be getting one for Christmas from my beautiful and brilliant fiancĂ©e (who reads this site regularly.) The ION Drum Kit, however, is taking preorders right now. Nudge, nudge.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is due in stores this Monday (October 27, 2008). See more pix of the GHWT: WT premiere guitar, as well as some screenshots of the upcoming game, here.
