Bumptop bought by Google

Toronto based BumpTop, makers of the 3D desktop interface of the same name, has been acquired by Google.  We’ve talked about Bumptop in the past, as it made for an interesting UI for touch screen computers.  Earlier this year BumpTop appeared on HP’s tm2 convertible laptop, as well as releasing a verison for Mac OS X. Chrome OS due out by end of 2010

Google CEO Eric Schmidt, while speaking at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, announced that Google’s Chrome OS is still under construction, and on track to be released in the second half of this year. Chrome OS is a lightweight Linux based OS that uses the Google Chrome web browser as the main interface, and is geared towards lower end computing, such as netbooks and devices that make use of the mobile-geared ARM processors.. Google’s Chrome OS Coming In 2010

Google is planning on launching it’s Chrome OS, an extension of it’s Chrome browser, by mid 2010, and plans on ushering in an era of “speed, simplicity and security” for netbook computers. Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks.
