The factory has had a rash of suicides in the last little while and the company has hired everything from counselors to Buddhist monks to try and deal this this. So after waiting for the reveal of Apple’s once “mythical” tablet to be revealed, only to end up being as disappointed as Japanese Anne of Green Gables fans after traveling half way around the world to see the real deal, I decided I was going to buy a Windows based tablet. The Microsoft Courier looked interesting but a bit out there and the HP Slate looked rocking although a bit underspec’d. I decided to hold out for the Slate.

The last 24 hours have been pretty interesting, and just a little odd, in the smart phone space. Beside HP purchasing Palm, Microsoft has announced a licensing deal with long time hardware partner HTC. The odd thing is that this applies to HTC’s Android devices, not their range of Windows Phone hardware. This means that for every HTC Android device sold going forward, Microsoft gets a small piece. Except for a brief roundtable discussion which we published last week, we largely steered clear of the whole Gizmodo iPhone 4G leak, but recent events make it interesting to look at in a different light. This past Friday night, California’s Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT) police, operating under a search warrant, busted down Gizmodo editor Jason Chen’s front door home while he was out, and confiscated all his computer equipment. To get you caught up on the story, here’s the Cliff Notes version of events leading up to it:
