At X’10 – Need For Speed Hot Pursuit

Dana Sissons, Public Relations Manager for EA, talks to us about the latest version of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, developed by Criterion Games, makers of the Burnout series and set in the fictional Seacrest County, based on the California coastline. This offers up a variety of racing environments, with the four major variants being forests, mountains, desert and ocean.

As Dana explains, the new Need For Speed aiming to provide short burst, intense racing, focusing on the thrill of the chase. He also mentions that the developers took inspiration from some of the great cinematic car chases, such as Bullitt and Ronin. From a game style seems to lean a little more towards the arcade feel of Burnout Paradise and less towards the realistic sims such as Forza and Gran Turismo. The model for the game is the original 1998 Need For Speed, developed by Electronic Arts Canada, and will feature 65 different cars.

There will also be up to 8 players in multiplayer, and to keep the social aspect going, NFS introduces the Autolog, which tracks your friends who also play Hot Pursuit, notifying you if a friend beats your time on a particular race.  Another part of the Autolog is the Taunt wall, for laying down the smack with your friends.

Speaking of the social nature of multiplayer, and the joys of beating a friend in a game, Dana said.. “When I beat you, it’s much more satisfying than beating a 12 year old in Arkansas”

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit ships on November 16th.
