Blizzard (finally) announces Diablo III and will try to pry that console controller from your hands
After a week of wild rumors sparked by the gradually evolving teaser image that Blizzard posted for the 2008 Paris Invitational event, it was announced today that yes, everyone was correct. Diablo III is coming out ‘when it’s done’. They are not straying too far from the 3rd-person, isometric view, hack and slash gameplay of the first 2 games. Of course they have updated the tech to today’s standards, and if the videos posted online are any indication, the final game looks like it’s going to be a beautiful action-packed dungeon romp. However it remains to be seen how the core gameplay of a what was a simple yet extremely addictive game developed in the last century has been updated. How much more depth can Blizzard incorporate? Though no platforms were officially announced, it is safe to assume that Diablo III will only be released for the PC and Mac, since Blizzard has stated many times that they are only interested in making games for computers. Hopefully this game, along with Starcraft II, might result in a new PC-gaming renaissance — and kick start the first Mac one!
