E3 starts today with Microsoft keynote – Canadians left out in the cold again

Today Microsoft made many exciting  Xbox 360 announcements, some of the highlights were release dates high anticipated games, Final Fantasy XIII coming to 360 and ‘Xbox Live Primetime’, an online game-show channel accessed through Live. They are also completely revamping the consoles interface, with a totally new dashboard and Nintendo Mii-like avatars, but as per usual there was a kick in the nuts to Canadian gamers, with the announcement that Xbox would now support Netflix Standard Definition on-demand programming (HD in the future). Netflix is only available in the USA,…

Since rgbFilter has be over saturated by iPhone news for the past few days we have decided that we will be putting moratarium on all iPhone related news for now. HOWEVER we will still be editing together all video footage we took into a series of short clips that will be posted later this week. So without further ado we present the first on many E3 related posts. (and for those who are not gamers E3 is the annual video gaming convention in L.A. where most of the big gaming…

Toronto iPhone launch turns into a debacle

Having had some time to reflect on the Toronto iPhone launch and getting some sleep (well a nap of a few hours) I am going to be posting some more detailed accounts of the night and morning. FIRSTLY I would like to point out that I am angered by the fact that Rogers quickly turned what should have been an event for all the customers who were excited enough to line up in the rain for hours on end into a media circus where the only person that really mattered…

Mark Millar talks about the reboot of the Superman reboot

Mark Millar, the creator of the comic Wanted (a dark super villain tale superior to the movie) has been quoted in this IGN news article as being linked to the follow-up to the less than successful Superman Returns. He is quoted as saying that he has always wanted to ‘re-invent Superman for the 21st century’ and that the new movie, with a director to be announced, would be released in 2011. This, according to IGN, is in conflict with Bryan Singer’s announcement that he is going to be working on…

Diamonds are an Apple h8tr’s best friend. (and include unlimited data)

Along with the Bell Instinct announcement yesterday, Telus officially confirmed they would be the first North American wireless provider to have the new HTC Touch Diamond, which is the latest and greatest Windows Mobile device. The CDMA model is slightly different than the GSM one that has been available for a short time in Europe in Asia – although they have ditched the faceted ‘diamond’ look of the case, the CDMA model retains the same slick user interface and features improved specs. The battery capacity has been increased (at the…

F**k You Rogers becomes Ruined iphone, gets over 12000 signatures and counting

What probably started as what the creator thought might generate a few thousand signatures from Howardforums.com and iphoneincanada.ca readers has quickly snowballed over the weekend to be one of the week’s top tech stories, with one digg being the 12th highest overall digg in the past 7 days. What is more impressive to me is that this is a Canadian story, something that rarely gets much attention in the mostly US-centric tech news on the web. Ruinediphone.com now has (as of 6pm EST, June 29th) 12,725 signatures. Interestingly, as you…

Blizzard (finally) announces Diablo III and will try to pry that console controller from your hands

After a week of wild rumors sparked by the gradually evolving teaser image that Blizzard posted for the 2008 Paris Invitational event, it was announced today that yes, everyone was correct. Diablo III is coming out ‘when it’s done’. They are not straying too far from the 3rd-person, isometric view, hack and slash gameplay of the first 2 games. Of course they have updated the tech to today’s standards, and if the videos posted online are any indication, the final game looks like it’s going to be a beautiful action-packed…

If you aren’t already excited what’s wrong with you.

This Friday Wanted is coming to theatres. For those who might scoff at another Angelina Jolie action movie, please remember that the film is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov, know to true film geeks as the man behind the Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, that despite somewhat convoluted plots boasted some of the most impressive and imaginative visuals seen on the screen since the Matrix. If the Wanted is even only half as cool as the trailer makes it seem we are in for quite a (happily R-rated)…

AMD ‘Officially’ Launches Radeon 4870, declares cinema dead.

In a previous post Doug mentioned the spiffy ‘real-time rendered’ animation AMD (ATI) showed at a press event, declaring it the birth of ‘Cinema 2.0’. Hyperbole aside this week AMD has annnounced their new ‘King’ of graphics cards, the Radeon 4870. Ringing in at the $300 USD range it is certainly a much better buy than the new Nvidia GTX 280 launched last week, at $650! However unlike the Nvidia card the 4870 is not available in stores yet (due at the end of June), whereas the GTX 280 could…
