Diamonds are an Apple h8tr’s best friend. (and include unlimited data)
Along with the Bell Instinct announcement yesterday, Telus officially confirmed they would be the first North American wireless provider to have the new HTC Touch Diamond, which is the latest and greatest Windows Mobile device. The CDMA model is slightly different than the GSM one that has been available for a short time in Europe in Asia – although they have ditched the faceted ‘diamond’ look of the case, the CDMA model retains the same slick user interface and features improved specs.
The battery capacity has been increased (at the cost of a couple of mm in increase in size), the internal memory upped and the phone features a more comfortable to hold rounded edge shape (along with the standard Diamond 4gb internal memory, Wi-Fi, 3.2 mp camera, GPS, full HTML browsing with Opera 9.5) The only negative is that in order to keep the thickness down, HTC decided to ditch the expandable memory slot. Boo!
For those who have had bad experiences with Windows Mobile in the past (and admittedly the ‘stock’ Microsoft interface leaves a lot to be desired in usability and looks) the Diamond (and the Touch before it) goes out of its way to handily dispel any misconceptions you might have with HTC’s sexy new ‘TouchFLO 3D’ interface. From the very comprehensive comparison review found on GSMArena (a must read) you can see that TouchFLO 3D rivals and in some cases surpasses the vaulted iPhone UI – and of course it does cut and paste.
The GSMArena article also talks a lot about a lot about Samsung’s new i900 Windows Mobile phone which probably won’t be released in Canada in the near future, but is also a cool little device.
The Diamond will be available ‘soon’ (but when asked Telus told us ‘August’) for $149 on a 3 year term. The standard Telus $30 UNLIMITED data option will be available with any plan. Your move Ted.
