ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101 hands-on

Although the Eee Pad Transformer is a difficult tablet to come by, what with it being back ordered just about everywhere, Alex managed to get some hands on time with it recently. In particular, he takes a good look at how the optional keyboard/battery attachment works, which brings Honeycomb dangerously close to netbook territory.

ASUS Eee Slate EP121 review

Eschewing the more common convertible notebook design and going full on slate with both multitouch and Wacom digitizer is something new for Asus and the PC industry in general. It’s clear that such decisions are driven more by the consumer market that convertible makes have been targeting in the past. We had a couple of weeks to put the EP121 through its paces, and have come away suitably impressed.

Acer Iconia Tab to arrive in May (Windows and Android)

As part of its Iconia line, Acer announced a pair of wi-fi multitouch tablets, the W500 and A500 (W for Windows, A for Android). Both tablets sport 10.1″ 1280×800 screens and the Windows will have optional USB keyboard/docks that allow it to be used in a more traditional laptop mode. We’ve received word from an Acer reseller that both tablets should be arriving in Canada sometime next month. The Tab A500 running Android 3.0 has a Tegra 2 under the hood, along with 16GB of storage and will be priced…

Acer Iconia Touchbook laptop up for pre-order

The Acer Iconia Touchbook certainly raised some eyebrows when it first made an appearance at CES this year, gett. The 14″ multitouch laptop ditches a physical keyboard in favour of a second LCD panel with a full-screen keyboard application, as well as a whole suite of applications designed specifically with the form factor in mind.

Sony Ericsson confirms no multi-touch or custom ROM’s for X10

While we still haven’t completed our review of the Xperia X10, we thought we would do a service for the enquiring minds that have been speculating on whether the X10 will eventually support multi-touch. While there has been both positive and negative answers to this question posted on multiple tech sites, we feel that the response we got from Sony Ericsson is the final say on this matter – Owing to the particular hardware and software configuration of the X10, multi-touch capabilities will not be enabled in the core platform…

Stantum multitouch running on a Slate PC

Stantum, who earlier this year demonstrated their innovate resistive touch screen technology which incorporates both multitouch and pressure sensitivity on a mobile screen at Mobile World Congress are showing a new update to the Touch Park software.  This time it’s running on a Slate PC, which is a modded Dell Mini 10 netbook. This suggests that Touch Park has moved on up in the world to the x86 architecture found in PCs.  Among the capabilities are pressure sensitivity, pixel resolution and 10 point multitouch.  There’s no mention if 10 points…

Trio of Acer convertible tablets announced

Netbooks have been with us for a couple of years now, and although the market has been one of the largest growing consumer tech sectors, there’s been little innovation beyond increasing screen size and the blurring of lines between netbook and laptop. Sitting squarely between the netbook and laptop markets are ultra thin devices that range from reasonably priced products like the Acer Timeline to the ultra expensive and stylish Dell Adamo and Sony Vaio X. I had a chance to play with the Acer 1410, and found it to…

A Look at the New Wacom Fun Pen & Touch Tablet

Okay, so I recently picked up the new Wacom Bamboo Fun (Pen & Touch) Tablet to see if it holds up to what Wacom’s been promising about offering multitouch and pen tablet experience on both a Mac and a Windows-based computer.  I know what you’re thinking, why don’t I wait for one of the new multi-touch monitors coming out?  Well, for starters I’m impatient; I want multi-touch NOW!  Second, I really like using a pen for some of the drawings and Photoshop touchups I like to do.  Thirdly, I have…

Mouse 2.0 via Microsoft

Though the images above may not be much to look at, what they represent is actually interesting on a couple of levels. With multitouch input being all the rage, and the occasional musing on the mouse being dead as an input method, it appears that Microsoft Research has turned conventional thinking on it’s head with 5 new prototype mice, each with it’s own twist on the venerable input device.  The antennae on the Arty for example are individually articulated touch surfaces.  By the way, if you’re wondering what FTIR stands…

Windows Mobile 7 hardware specs?

We don’t engage in too much speculation here at rgbFilter headquarters (all right we do, we don’t generally post about it though), but over the past few months, there’s been a lot of talk about Microsoft’s Project Pink, which could be a Zune phone, or a software/services platform for future Windows Mobile devices.  Heck, some rumours have even floated about Xbox Live integration including gaming. In any case, it appears that the minimum specs for Windows Mobile 7 have been leaked by none other than Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet,…

Mobile Interface Demos

Beyond all the new phones at Mobile World Congress this year, there were some really interesting demos of technology that may change the way we interact with mobile devices in general in the future. We’ve already mentioned the graphics power of Nvidia’s long awaited Tegra platform that should appear on both Google’s Android and Windows Mobile in the not to distant future. Beyond processing power, there were some new interfaces demoed at Mobile World Congress in 2009 worth highlighting. Stantum demonstrated their new multi-touch technology, but what makes it different…
