PhysX Support Coming To Nvidia on Aug 12th?

Some time ago Nvidia acquired PhysX, a company that made dedicated hardware to vastly speed up rendering of physics calculations which includes everything from water pouring out of a tube demos to complex interactions between hard and soft bodies to name but a few.

Now, it’s being reported that the latest version of the Nvidia drivers (177.79) which are due out August 12th, will have PhysX support built into them.  Most models Nvidia cards in the 8000 and 9000 series, as well as the latest generation 260 and 280 will see hardware physics calculations supported.  Any game that previously had hardware support for the PhysX engine should now be compatible with the new drivers via CUDA, Nvidia’s initiative to allow graphics card to be used for general processing purposes.

Beyond gaming, the added PhysX support should help encourage developers to start building PhysX support into 3D animation programs and plug-ins.
