Jumpcut: Best Before June 15th

And by ‘best before’ I mean ‘nonexistent after’… Most of my personal film projects are primarily linked at Jumpcut. I kinda knew this was coming lately, in fact, I should have seen the writing on the wall the moment Jumpcut was bigfished by the aimless monstrosity that is Yahoo!, but I procrastinated and it’s still going to be a huge pain in the ass. Time to start chasing down them dead links!

Dear Jumpcut user,

After careful consideration, we will be officially closing the Jumpcut.com site on June 15, 2009. This was a difficult decision to make, but it’s part of the ongoing prioritization efforts at Yahoo!

We have released a software utility that allows you to download the movies you created on Jumpcut to your computer. As well, you can now download your original assets. Please visit the download page at http://www.jumpcut.com/myhome/?subnav=download to get started.

Once you download your movies, you may choose to upload them to another site such as Flickr, which allows video uploads for short videos (90 seconds or less). You can find out more here: http://flickr.com/explore/video

Thanks for being a part of Jumpcut.

NInety seconds or less, indeed. Anything to avoid mentioning the competition! Another bonehead see-through statement from Yahoo!, the most incompetent internet company that was ever considered actually important by anyone.

Man, that truly sucks! Really?? 90 seconds or less?? I agree, the fact that they didn’t mention their competitors is bad on their part as most of them will be able to host most videos 10 minutes and longer.

But mind you, everyone on the Web knows Youtube anyway and Jumpcut’s move can be seen as petty.

Any ideas where you’ll end up hosting your videos now?

    1. Most of them are already on YouTube, it’s just a matter of fixing broken links. But I think I do have a couple on Jumpcut that are longer than 10 minutes, and I haven’t figured out what to do with those.
