Crackdown 2 review

When we got an early hands-on with Crackdown 2 back in May, I was enamoured with the game.  You see, I was a huge fan of the original, and everything seemed in place to make Crackdown 2 bigger and better.  In a lot of ways, Ruffian Games did build upon the original, but in their quest for pure gameplay, I couldn’t help but feel something was lacking.

Xbox LIVE Gold Family Subscription coming in November

Microsoft will be rolling out the new Xbox LIVE Gold Family subscription in November of 2010.  The new plan, priced at $99 US, is about the same price as 2 regular 12 month subscriptions, but gives you four separate accounts. It’s obviously targeted at families, not friends pooling to save some money on their subscription, as there will be a primary (or parent) account that will be able to dole out the MS Points to the secondary (or children) accounts.  The parent account will also be able to monitor the…

Crackdown 2 Demo available now

The public demo for Ruffian Games’ Crackdown 2 launched today, with a few interesting twists.  Besides providing both single player and 4 player co-op modes, if you’re also a Facebook user, they’ve got a tie in game called Chuck’s Ducks 2, a carnival style game that allows players to earn and activate special sticky bombs, for use in the retail game.  You can check out our hands on impression with the game last month, as well as our interview Ruffian Games creative director Billy Thomson.  In brief, Crackdown 2 is…

Rock Band 3 brings keytar, 80’s cheese to the mix

Green Day fans who downloaded the 2 song demo of Green Day: Rock Band got the first nugget of a hint that keyboards keytars would be coming to Rock Band 3. At the end of the demo, the RB3 image splashed onscreen, that included the four classic instruments as well as an icon for keyboard. The microphone icon was also changed to show three mics, which suggests that Harmonix is going to be bringing, er, harmonics, to the third installment of the rhythm game, though that’s less of surprise since…

The server switchover had kept us preoccupied here at the rgb HQ, so what better way than to get caught up in all the latest gaming news? Fable III adds Windows to its world

It seems there’s a lot of news coming out of Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios regarding Fable III recently. The latest is that Fable III will be available not only on the Xbox 360, but the PC as well. On the 360 there will be both a standard and the limited edition for the hardcore fans of the franchise. On the PC, it will be available both at retail and as a download via the awkwardly named Games on Demand on Games for Windows – LIVE. I’m not knocking the…

Forza 3 Exotic Car pack available

If you’re a racing game fan, and have a 360, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t already picked up Forza 3.  It’s one of the few racing games I actually enjoy on any console (Pole Position on Colecovision not withstanding).  That being said, a new pack of 10 exotic cars have been made available on Xbox Live, for 400 points, which amounts to about $5.  To be honest, I know so little about exotic cars that I THINK I’ve heard of one or two from the list, which…

Halo: Reach beta impressions

The mulitplayer beta Halo: Reach, available for free to Halo 3: ODST owners, was released yesterday. If the beta is any indication, Bungie’s last installment of the franchise is going to be a high point.  I’ve always enjoyed the Halo series, but mainly for the single player experience.  Every game in the Halo franchise has had good multiplayer, which is a large reason why it’s been successful for so long. Last night, after playing Reach for much longer than I expected to, I have to say that this is the…

L4D2: The Passing – impressions

After last week’s release of Left 4 Dead 2’s “The Passing”, a couple of us here at rgb have had a chance to run through it and give our impressions. If you haven’t heard of it yet, “The Passing” is a new campaign for L4D2 that not only adds a missing episode between “Dead Center” and “Dark Carnival”. It’s free for PC players and 560 points on Xbox Live. “The Passing” is a little shorter than most campaigns, with 3 chapters instead of the normal 5, and an average playthrough…

Game With Fame: teh_pwnerer wants to pwn you

Every week or so, Xbox has been hosting the Game With Fame series, where you can have a chance to play against, well, someone famous, be it musicians ranging from Busta Rhymes to Weird Al Yankovich or game designers and UFC fighters.
