RED squashes major bug, EPIC and Scarlet back on track

After a major delay to a major bug in their new designs, RED is back on track with the EPIC and Scarlet cameras. Originally estimated to come out in 2009, the delays on the new digital cinema cameras were hitting ValveTime levels of unpredictability. RED founder Jim Jannard had this to say in a post last night… …we have located the wicked, mean and nasty bug and our engineering team has put a bullet in the back of it’s head. Just last week, I was having a discussion with with a co-worker about video recording on the new breed of DSLRs, and mentioned that if RED doesn’t get it’s butt in gear, they could very well concede the prosumer market to the likes of Canon and Nikon. The RED ONE camera has been around for a while now, showing it’s chops as a replacement for analog film for a couple of years. Since then, Red also annouced two new cameras, including the Scarlet which is aimed squarely at the prosumer market. Well, the details are out thanks to the RED user forum, and although they added a little more ‘pro’ to the pricing than originally announced, the specs are pretty impressive.
