NXNE 2010 kicks into gear
It was a different world when Toronto’s NXNE (North By Northwest don’t you know) started out in 1994 as a music festival, based on the model by sister event SXSW (South By Southwest, natch). Even in the early days, NXNE was an ambitious affair with dozens of venues and enough bands, and music lovers, to fill them up. Since then the festival has grown and evolved, adding the film component in 2001, and most recently introducing NXNE interactive. Although nothing so big is expected here, it was at SXSW interactive 2007 where Twitter got it’s big coming out party.
NXNE officially started yesterday, but with over 650 bands at 50 venues, there’s plenty going on between now and June 20th when it wraps up. Beyond the official website, take a look at Now’s NXNE guide to get some ideas as to what to check out.
Yonge Dundas Square will be playing host to a ton of great free shows as well, including the iconic Iggy And The Stooges, De La Soul, and about 20 more acts. You can check out the full list after the break.
