Rogers announces availability of Acer Liquid e

As of today, Rogers is the first to introduce an Acer smartphone to the North American market, in the form of the Liquid e.  Don’t let the name fool you.  There’s no glowstick app pre-installed, and it doesn’t come with a Paul Oakenfold discography on board, though the inclusion of both would have been an edgy stroke of marketing genius.

Then again, it may not need that kind of marketing, because the specs of the phone hold their own.  Running stock Android 2.1 on a 768MHz Snapdragon, the Liquid e certainly has some power behind it, along with a 5 mega-pixel camera and 3.5 inch, 800 x 480 screen.  It also falls under the umbrella of Social View phones on Rogers, for unlimited social networking for apps that come pre-installed on the phone.  In the case of the Liquid e, this means only unlimited Facebook. However Social View does also allow unlimited access to other sites, such as Twitter, MySpace, Bebo and Flickr, through the phones mobile browser.

The phone can be had for as little as $49.99 on a 3 year plan, as long as the minimum plan fee is $45.  Although this is Acer’s first foray into the realm of Android smartphones, and I can’t say anthing about the build quality of the phone itself, Acer has a pretty solid track record in my book.  If you’re looking at trying out your first Android smart phone, this is certainly one of the top contenders when held up to the old Bang/Buck meter.
