Amazon Kindle available in Canada

2009-11-17-kindle

Amazon has announced that the Kindle ebook reader is now available in Canada, which bring an integrated ebook reading experience to the market. Besides books, Canada will have wireless access to over 90 newspapers on a single use or subscription basis.

In the US, customers can browse and buy books directly through the device using a 3G connection, for a fee of 10 cents per book. There is a similar deal with one of Canadas wireless carriers, but as of yet that carrier hasn’t been announced.

If you’re interested in ebooks, but don’t want a Kindle, there are other options. Canadian bookstore Indigo launched its ebook service in the spring, with software readers available for a number of platforms, from the PC to the iPhone, and Amazon Kindle apps are similarly available for devices. Just last week they released the free reader for Windows (7, Vista and XP), including making use of the native multitouch features in Windows 7, to make flipping pages more natural. The Mac OS X version is coming soon.
