Microsoft’s Mojave OS A Major Hit

Microsoft recently unveiled it’s ‘Mojave’ operating system to a select group of prominent bloggers in San Francisco just over a week ago.  They specifically went out of their way to get people who had been vocal about their dislike of Vista.

The results?  Over 90% of the group had a positive reaction to the Mojave OS, including one exclamation of “Oh wow!”, which is reminiscent of the Vista OS launch.

The real kicker is that the Mojave OS is nothing more than Vista.

The idea of putting said focus group together came through an email by Microsoft’s David Webster, who runs naming for the company, who sent it to a number of superiors.  From there the ball got rolling, and the focus group was off and running.

CNet had the first look at the footage, which in all likelyhood will become public as soon as next week.  As reported by CNet, it appears that this focus group experiment didn`t involve Crispin Porter + Bogusky, but was totally a Microsoft endeavours.

This speaks volumes to the idea that we are all too often victims of perception over reality, and draw conclusions not from our own observations, but trusting the observations of others as canonical.  Sometimes, it`s not even the critical views of others, but smarmy marketing campaigns that have overstayed their welcome.

Anais Nin once said “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.”

Too bad many prominent bloggers (or people in general) don’t keep that quote pinned above their keyboard as a refrain. (via CNet)

  1. I was surprised when I hit the jump to discover that “…nothing more than vista” meant ACTUALLY Vista!! Regardless of CP+B’s involvement in this particular stunt, it certainly has their style all over it. It reminds me of another CP+B stunt called “WHOPPER FREAKOUT”, in which they had a Burger King stop serving the whopper (and claim it was discontinued) for 1 day and recorded customer reaction. (http://www.whopperfreakout.com). Bogusky loves turning customer reaction into the message.

I assume the smarmy campaigns to which you’re referring star John Hodgeman and Justin Long 😛
