Apple’s WWDC 2011 keynote kicks off soon, some already sad at what they’re not getting
Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers conference is all set to kick off in just 2 hours, and as is par for the course, the rumour mill is kicking into overdrive. Principal among them is speculation on what may or may not be announced at today’s keynote address, given, as always, by Steve Jobs.
In the past, the WWDC keynote has been shrouded in mystery, with no press releases or comment from Apple leading up to the event, and even the signage at Moscone West being deliberately vague, giving only a hint to what might be discussed. This year, however, Apple has gone full-on transparent, explicitly saying that the keynote will address OSX Lion, iOS 5, and the new iCloud service.
Invitations for this seemingly underwhelming event have been sent to tech press members as far away as Australia, prompting some to wonder, maybe there will be a big hardware announcement after all?
Today, notable tech site Engadget spent a half hour streaming live video from outside Moscone West, waxing philosophic about what kind of new hardware announcements we might be treated to in today’s “one more thing.”
“Why would they announce iOS 5 and not give us a new device to work it on?” asked Tim Stevens. Other speculations were that we will see a new Macbook Air or an iPod Nano with a camera.
So what do you think? A new iPhone? A refreshed Macbook Air? A Nano with a tiny camera built-in? We’ll have to wait until 10:00 Pacific to find out…but no, no such thing will be announced. Rumours and speculation are definitely a great PR tool for a company like Apple, but come on guys…this is getting a little obscene.
