Federal court kills Tory Wind Mobile decision

It’s been a busy week for the Federal government and the CRTC.  The latest is that Federal Court judge Roger Hughes has struck down 2009 Tory decision to overrule the CRTC when it comes to Globalive, best known as new mobile carrier Wind Mobile.  The appeal to Federal Court was launched by new entrant rival Public Mobile, which claimed that the government had overstepped its bounds in allowing Wind to launch even though it didn’t meet CRTC Canadian ownership regulations. The judge has instituted a 45 day stay, which lets…

Communications Union want to stop Wind Mobile

Last week, Industry Minister Tony Clement stayed the CRTC decision preventing Globalive from launching Wind Mobile in Canada. As a mobile consumer, this is a good thing, even though it does raise the question of foreign ownership rule in the Canadian telecommunications industry. By making a special case for Globalive, Tony Clement was definitely sneaking a peek into Pandora’s Box. Now, it appears that the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers’ union wants to close that lid again. “This decision is a sellout of Canadian national interests and a betrayal of Canadian…

CRTC overruled, Globalive given OK to launch Wind Mobile in Canada

It’s been a while coming, especially if you’re a Wind Mobile employee, but Industry Canada has overruled a CRTC decision that prevented the new wireless carrier from launching in the country. Tony Clement hints at overturn of CRTC – Wind Mobile decision

Late last week, Minister of Industry Tony Clement made some comments that could be considered disconcerting to the incumbent wireless carriers in Canada, regarding the CRTC’s recent decision to block Globalive’s Wind Mobile wireless from launching in Canada… “We do have the power through an order of council in cabinet to amend or vary the decision of the CRTC… The government’s policy is designed to increase competitiveness in the wireless space, and that is important for Canadian consumers because it increases choice, it increases quality and it reduces cost. [from…

Globalive launches Wind Mobile advertising in Canada

Globalive, and their Wind Mobile branded wireless service may still be waiting on approval from the Canadian powers that be, but that hasn’t stopped the newcomer from starting a national advertising campaign as of this past weekend.  The spots use the Candid Camera approach to reveal the egregious nature of the incumbent companies’ policies, and work as commentary even if they aren’t ads in their own right, wich is a slim possibility. Industry Canada and the CRTC are still trying to decide what to do with Globalive, as the largely…

Globalive leaked phone plans… AKA was Alex right about blurry cam conspiracies

A poster over at Howard Forums, one of the biggest message boards for all things mobile phones, has leaked a number of stills, plus the planned rates for emerging new Canadian wireless carrier Globalive, who bought up a lot of spectrum in the Canadian airwaves auctions not to long ago.  The poster claims that he’s doing this because he was let go from the company, but I’ll get to that in a paragraph.. Among the details? Globalive will be carrying some high end fare, such as the HTC G1 and…
