Windows Phone 7 Series – has Microsoft pulled it off?

Probably the most anticipated event at Mobile World Congress has finally passed, and with it, Microsoft has announced a whole new direction with it’s mobile platform, which has been rebranded Windows Phone 7 Series.  Although WP7S devices aren’t expected to start shipping until near the end of the year, the folks at Redmond have definitely taken a ground up approach with the new OS, UI and hardware.  Microsoft will be much more strict on the minimum hardware specs, which is a good thing, since in the past there were some…

WindowsPhone – what Microsoft needs to do at Mobile World Congress

We rarely delve into outright speculation here at rgbHeadquarters, but over the past month or two, there have been a number of rumours regarding what is going to be a major update to the Windows Mobile platform with version 7, and the rebranding to Windows Phone. With Mobile World Congress starting next week, those rumours have increased, and many have solidified somewhat. What to expect from Microsoft at MWC is largely dependent on what they need to fix, and a little reading of the tea leaves.

Xbox Live going 360 exclusive

According to a letter today from  Marc Whitten, GM of Xbox Live, the original Xbox is definitely looking at it’s sunset months, at least when it comes to online gaming.  Support for the original Xbox on the Live service will end on April 15th, 2010.   This includes both original titles compatible with the 360 and the downloadable Xbox Originals games. This doesn’t affect the single player experience, as it affects the multiplayer gaming aspect. The largest groups of people to be affected are fans of Halo 2 and Counter Strike….

As for the update itself, the main interface remains the same, and the additions are for the most part well done. The real stand outs have to be the Facebook app which…

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Preview Reopens

As it’s done in the past, Microsoft has opened up a new round of previews for the latest Dashboard update.  The new Dashboard integrates Facebook, Twitter, Zune and other goodness, and by all accounts the Facebook interface alone is worth the (admittedly low) price of admission. To get in on the preview, which starts in about a week, you just have to fill out a short survey giving them an idea of how your gaming rig is set up (wired vs. wireless, HDTV or SDTV etc).  You’ll also need a…

It’s a big show this time around as we review Terminator Salvation, Star Trek and Wolverine as well as talk about some of the other upcoming summer releases. In gaming, we look at Plants vs Zombies and 1 vs 100 on Xbox, and discuss the preview of Bioshock 2. There’s also a lot of comic news, including TCAF 2009 (the Toronto Comic Arts Festival), and a rundown of some great new web comics by Paul, via Warren Ellis’ call out for submissions to the White Chapel forums.

Windows Mobile 7 hardware specs?

We don’t engage in too much speculation here at rgbFilter headquarters (all right we do, we don’t generally post about it though), but over the past few months, there’s been a lot of talk about Microsoft’s Project Pink, which could be a Zune phone, or a software/services platform for future Windows Mobile devices.  Heck, some rumours have even floated about Xbox Live integration including gaming. In any case, it appears that the minimum specs for Windows Mobile 7 have been leaked by none other than Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet,…
