The End is Nigh: Duke Nukem Forever is coming out in 2011

Woah! Duke Nukem Forever is actually coming out. In 2011. At PAX Take Two announced that Gearbox Software would be completing the game. 3D Realms, the original developer, shut down development last year when they ran out of money. More details about how Gearbox got involved and revived a game we all thought was dead can be found in this great article on Kotaku here.

Seeing as DNF has been in production since 1997, I thought I’d list a couple of things in gaming and tech history that have happened in the past 13 years:

– Google was incoporated in 1998, Apple released the first iPod in 2001, and YouTube was founded in 2005.
– Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 were released, and the entirety of the Half-Life series so far has come out.
– Microsoft released the Xbox and the Xbox 360. Sony released the Playstation 2 and Playstation 3.
– World of Warcraft was released, and by the time DNF ships, and three WOW expansions.

It is amazing that Duke Nukem Forever is actually finally coming out, and that Hell didn’t have to freeze over first. However as my image above shows, its release could be the sign of something far more serious!

Check out some gameplay footage from PAX after the break.

  2. And when Gearbox says “completed”, what they apparently meant was “Made a Duke Nukem mod for Halo”.

  3. 474998 449770Aw, it was an incredibly very good post. In thought I would like to set up writing comparable to this in addition – taking time and actual effort to create a extremely great article but exactly what do I say I procrastinate alot and also no means manage to go done. 553065
