Bell announces HTC Desire Z as coming soon

Although some internal documents leaked to the web a few days back, Bell has now made the launch of the HTC Desire Z official.  It will be the exclusive carrier of HTC’s QWERTY keyboard Android pone.  The Desire Z, powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) and an 800MHz Qualcomm chip, will be the first in Canada to offer 14.4 megabits per second downloads. To promote the launch, Bell is running a contest to win a Desire Z, which you can enter here.

The Desire Z will also be the first phone in North America to support the htcsense.com back end which provides a number of services, from phone recovery and management, and giving users a web interface for the Footprints feature, something that has been a long time coming.  It will also be running the latest version of HTC Sense, one of the few Android overlays that make Android an accessible operating system outside the world of phone geeks, in my humble opinion of course.  The four row landscape QWERTY keyboard also looks very impressive, along the lines of HTCs Touch Pro 2, though it would have been nice to see a dedicated number row.

HTC Announces UPCOMING Exclusive AVAILABILITY OF The HTC Desire Z SMARTPHONE from Bell

HTC Desire Z smartphone is the first in Canada to offer download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps and first in North America to feature the next generation of HTC Sense

Toronto, ON – October 14, 2010 – HTC Corporation today announced the upcoming exclusive availability of the new HTC Desire ZTM Android-based smartphone from Bell Mobility. Taking advantage of Bell’s HSPA+ network, the HTC Desire Z will be the first smartphone in Canada offering download speeds up to 14.4 megabits per second.

Powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo), the HTC Desire Z will also be the first smartphone available in North America to boast the newest version of HTC Sense.

“Combining performance, style and usability, the HTC Desire Z is both the perfect multimedia companion and a fresh way for connecting with friends, family or colleagues,” said Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC Americas. “We are thrilled to be working with Bell Mobility to bring this communications experience to their customers, while at the same time providing the first device in North America with enhanced HTC Sense.”

The HTC Desire Z Smartphone

Thanks to the new HTC Sense experience, the HTC Desire Z smartphone offers a number of new innovations that are simple, powerful and more enjoyable. With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map. If the phone’s been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it.  HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser.

For people constantly on the go, the HTC Desire Z smartphone makes it quick and easy to stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter or with colleagues and customers at work. The HTC Desire Z smartphone features a unique keyboard that pops open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for fast typing andincludes a variety of shortcuts and two customizable keys for instant access to common functions without the need to open menus.  The HTC Desire Z smartphone also includes 720p HD video recording and a 5MP camera with automatic flash.
