Clint Mansell to score Mass Effect 3
In an interview with The Quietus, Clint Mansell let it slip that he’ll be scoring the third installment of Bioware’s Mass Effect franchise. Mansell is one of the best film composers working in Hollywood today. His work includes being the ‘go to’ composer for Darren Aronofsky, director of Pi, Requiem For A Dream and Black Swan. As the soundtrack for Requim so deftly illustrates, Mansell isn’t afraid to draw from a wide array of genres and styles to arrive at something unique.
This blending of genres is nothing new for him though, as before film composing, Mansell was singer/guitarist for one of the coolest bands of all time… Pop Will Eat Itself. The band, which seamlessly blended sounds from hip hop, electronic and straight up rock riffs never got the attention it deserved in my humble opinion.
Do you do much work for other outlets like computer games? Mike Patton, for example, has most recently voiced The Darkness.
CM: I’m doing a video game this year actually. Mass Effect 3. Funnily enough, talking about Mike, we’ve exchanged emails about the possibility of doing a show featuring the Quartet and people they’ve collaborated with. It’d be a Kronos show, with different rooms for other people to do their thing, then bringing it all together. It’s pretty cool-sounding.
I’m definitely interested in different outlets – that’s one of the reasons I get involved in short films. It’s not so much that I can experiment as it is to be in a situation where nobody’s looking over your shoulder. Short films are usually made by young people and they’ve got ideas I can bounce off. They can take me in a different direction.
And hey, if a little PWEI could sneak in there being sung by a character, all the better I say. The entire interview is well worth the read.

9173 8873This style is spectacular! You certainly know how to maintain a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own weblog (effectively, almostHaHa!) Amazing job. I actually enjoyed what you had to say, and a lot more than that, how you presented it. Too cool! 419679
