New Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World trailer & on-set interview

Yesterday, the second trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was released after Edgar Wright had decided to withhold its premiere until his Twitter campaign reaped a desired 100,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook. It was a little disappointing to find out that he was clamouring for ‘likes’ on a site that many people have moved on from. And, naturally, the cynic in me suspected that, even if the goal hadn’t been met, the trailer would have come out all the same. This trailer gives us a much better look at the…

Rockstar releases Red Dead Redemption launch trailer

The more I see of this game, the more I can’t wait to play it! While there have been many attempts before to create a ‘Western’ themed game, none of them have pulled it off successfully, however this game, a ‘Grand Theft Auto in the Old West’, looks like it could change that. Early impressions of the game posted today at Kotaku are good, and it looks like this game will be a must buy for 360 and PS3 owners. Hopefully, like Rockstar San Diego’s other franchise Midnight Club, there…

Dead Space 2: “Dementia” trailer released

The original Dead Space was one of my favourite games of 2008, and after a couple of quickly pulled leaks, the teaser trailer for the new Dead Space 2 is finally official.  That’s it right up there.  Of course, with an estimated ship date of early 2011, it’s still going to be a while before the game hits shelves for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

New TRON Legacy trailer awakens ancient geek slumber

This is the new TRON: Legacy trailer. It’s very cool. There’s little else to say. … Actually, there is. It IS very cool looking, other than the Mouse House logo at the beginning. The stream above is courtesy of Joystiq, because although Disney put an HD version on YouTube, they disabled embedding. Way to grok the 21st century. Apparently this trailer also played before the 3D Disney release of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland this weekend.  From anecdotal evidence, the trailer was the best part of the experience.

Green Lantern Trailer – fan style

Fans have been making wish fulfillment trailers for their favourite comics or sequels for some time now, but this is one of the better ones I’ve come across in a long while, so I thought I’d post it. I can’t help but wonder though… if a studio WERE entertaining the idea of using Nathan Fillion in a Green Lantern movie (as is recently rumoured), wouldn’t such fan made content discourage them from doing it? Just a thought.

The Return Of True Horror?

One can hope. It’s been a long time coming, but Sam Raimi is back helming a horror movie about a witch who puts a curse on a loan officer who denies her a mortgage extension. Not a sexy Wiccan witch with parent issues, but a ripped from the pages for the Brothers Grimm wart-bespeckled old hag, complete with an evil eye. Way to kick it old school, while keeping it topical. Don’t be surprised if people start rooting for the witch to win, given the current economic climate. Another point…

Psychologists [and Watchmen mock newsreel] Demo Propaganda

Psychologists have simultaneously discovered that synchronised behaviour (like, say… marching in step) increases loyalty, and that after being shown propagandistic images, people’s emotional profiles are changed. It’s something I’ve always noticed — people are like mirrors. From the article… Interest in the idea of a herd mentality has been renewed by work into mirror neurons – cells that fire when we perform an action or watch someone perform a similar action. It suggests that our brains are geared to mimic our peers. “We are set up for ‘auto-copy’.” Of course,…

If you aren’t already excited what’s wrong with you.

This Friday Wanted is coming to theatres. For those who might scoff at another Angelina Jolie action movie, please remember that the film is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov, know to true film geeks as the man behind the Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, that despite somewhat convoluted plots boasted some of the most impressive and imaginative visuals seen on the screen since the Matrix. If the Wanted is even only half as cool as the trailer makes it seem we are in for quite a (happily R-rated)…
