Bell Samsung Galaxy Tab: Hands On Video

Although no official launch dates are announced, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is set to appear on both Rogers and Bell here in Canada, probably by the end of November.  We had a chance to get our hands on one, and came away suitably impressed. The Android based tablet, seen as the second mainstream device in the tablet behind the iPad, sports a 7 inch 1024×600 display using Samsung’s Super LCD screen technology, making it about half the size of the iPad.  Unlike the silver back of the European version, Samsung…

RIM announces the BlackBerry PlayBook – BBM tablet style

Research In Motion’s developer event’ is still underway, but they’ve kicked it off with a bang, or so co-founder Mike Lazaridis is hoping.  The PlayBook is RIM’s push into the tablet space, sporting a 7 inch display, a 1GHz dual core Cortex A9 CPU and sport a ‘flash-loving’, ‘app-rocking’ platform designed by QNX, called the BlackBerry Tablet OS. When the PlayBook was still expected to be called the BlackPad, it was rumoured that one of the big differentiators for the device would be it’s pairing capabilities.  Sure enough, the preview…

Sharp Galapagos tablets to run Android, not called tablets

It looks like Sharp is the latest to enter the tablet game, announcing their new Galapagos 5.5 inch and 10.8 inch tablets e-book readers running Android.  Galapagos is also the name of the e-book/newspaper service that will come with the devices, which will delivers over 30,000 newspapers, books and magazines when the service launches in December (Japan only for now).  Sharp’s decisions to not mention the Android operating system in it’s press release, as well as marketing these as e-book readers, and not tablets, are both curious to say the…

Samsung Galaxy Tab coming without voice to Rogers and Bell

Since it was first announced, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7 inch Android based tablet has been getting a lot of positive press, and many who’ve had hands on experience are saying that it could be the first tablet to rival Apple’s iPad.  Despite being only about half the size of the iPad, the 7 inch screen’s more 16:9 friendly aspect ratio provides what appears to be a good balance between portability and viewability. In the US, the Galaxy Tab will be launching on all the major carriers with various 3G data…

Samsung Galaxy Tab coming to Canada

Over the past week or so, Samsung’s entry into the tablet market, the Galaxy Tab, has been generating a fair amount of buzz.  The fact that it’s a tablet is enough to get it some press.  When you combine that with the positive response to the Samsung Galaxy smartphone lineup, and it’s no surprise that the tablet is getting people interested. Though the 7 inch tablet, running Google’s Android OS (with Samsung’s TouchWiz overlay) is already slated to hit Europe on October 11th, as well as the US, a tweet…

The Computex Taipei trade show is the largest computer and electronics trade show in Asia, and one of the largest in the world, with over 1000 exhibitors this year. HP TouchSmart tm2 review

So after waiting for the reveal of Apple’s once “mythical” tablet to be revealed, only to end up being as disappointed as Japanese Anne of Green Gables fans after traveling half way around the world to see the real deal, I decided I was going to buy a Windows based tablet. The Microsoft Courier looked interesting but a bit out there and the HP Slate looked rocking although a bit underspec’d. I decided to hold out for the Slate.

It’s 3am, and I just checked the Apple.ca store, and the iPad pre-order page is up! The iPad: Did Apple jump the shark, or is it a tablet for the masses?

Well, iPad day has come and gone, and with it the dreams of many an Apple fan, if our internal emails here at rgbFilter are any indication. In the weeks leading up to the announcement of the new iPad, there was all kinds of rampant speculation. Will it be iPhone OS, or OS X? How big will it be? Will there be a stylus? Will it magically kill both other ebook readers and netbooks in one fell swoop? If you followed the standard commentary, not just in the tech press,…

Bing to potentially replace Google as the iPhone’s search engine of choice

According to an article in Business Week, Apple and Microsoft have been making plans to bring The Find Engine to the iPhone, replacing Google as the search engine of choice on the rapidly aging Apple device. This move would exacerbate the already touchy relationship between Apple and Google, and would more distinctly define the two companies as direct competitors to one another in the wake of the release of the Nexus One, Google’s own high-profile smartphone. That said, it is unclear whether the decision to change default search engines is…

Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch Tablet: A re-review

Back in November, Dave was able to satisfy his desire need to be able to multi-touch everything by plunking down $230 on the Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen & Touch tablet. He was kind enough to review it for us, and his reactions were decidedly favourable; so much so that Doug was convinced enough to pull the trigger on one of his own, the diminutive Pen & Touch, which he too spoke highly of. Personally, I’m an Intuos man; my first foray into the Wacom world was on an Intuos 2,…

Bumptop appears on new HP TouchSmart convertible

The Consumer Electronics Show is gearing up in Las Vegas, and with it comes literally thousands of new product announcements. There’s nothing better in January than looking at the geek toys you’ll be wanting NEXT Christmas. One of the announcements that caught my eye is HP’s TouchSmart tm2. The specs themselves are pretty solid. Windows 7 with a Core 2 Duo, ATI graphics in a fairly thin (but not truly slim) 12.1″ touchscreen which works with both fingers and stylus, and an expected 9 hours of battery life all for…
