Xperia Play and Arc hands on (video)

After months of leaked prototypes and endless speculation on the name, Sony Ericsson finally unveiled their gaming smartphone earlier this year with the Xperia Play. Both the Play and the more traditional slate style Xperia Arc will be coming to Rogers this spring. The two devices, while sharing much in the way of innards, are definitely aimed at different mobile market segments.

Why the Xperia Play isn’t the PlayStation Phone

Like most high end mobile phones, it all started with a couple of decidedly blurry photos, and has graduated to clearer videos and higher quality stills. A Sony Ericsson phone sporting PSP like controls on it certainly would lead one to jump to the conclusion that Sony is coming out with the PlayStation Phone, or PSP Phone. That alone is enough to set many a heart aflutter in anticipation.

Gran Turismo 5: Driving Force

Spoiler warning: Some cars in Gran Turismo 5 may come fitted with spoilers. You can also fit spoilers to pretty much any car in the Maintenance section. I’ve played every major version of Gran Turismo to date, including Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Gran Turismo for PSP (but not for very long). Every time, it’s roughly the same story: I enter GT Mode, start completing license tests, buy my first car, and slowly work my way up to the pro leagues until finally, somewhere before I’ve completed every race series,…

Child of Eden at Tokyo Game Show – Rez Super HD?

Child of Eden, from Q? Entertainment, the spiritual successor to Rez HD (Rez remade), had an extended demonstration at the Tokyo Game show. If you’re not familiar with Rez HD, it’s ostensibly a 3rd person shooter where your hacker avatar attempts to infiltrate an advanced computer network controlled by an AI named Eden. The game itself was completely on rails, but that didn’t stop it from becoming one of the best titles released on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. What makes that game stand out is it’s balance of visuals and…

Sony Move for the PS3 officially launches

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the PlayStation Move, it’s out now.  The wireless motion contoller allows players to move objects accurately through 3D space in games on the PS3, using a combination of accelerometers and the PlayStation Eye to provide 1:1 motion.  The official Sept 19th launch date was originally announced back at E3 2010, but John, our man in Montreal, was at his local game store on Friday, where there were a couple of boxes worth just sitting on the floor. Instead of ponying up…

Sony adding 320GB PS3 to the fall line-up

Though they had already appeared on the inventory lists at both Amazon and Gamestop in the past couple of days, Sony has finally officially confirmed that they will be updating the PS3 with both 160GB and 320GB hard drives.  The 160GB model, priced at $299.99 is replacing the current PS3, and already shipping to retail, so should be appearing on shelves any time now. The 320GB Move bundle, stuffed with Sports Champions, a PlayStation Eye and Move controller, aimed at getting people up and running with Sony’s new motion controller…

Rock Band 3: Rock Out with your Natural Talent Out

Remember when Rock Band first arrived on the scene? It, along with the venerable classic Guitar Hero, proved that it is possible to get up off the couch and interact with a game in a way that no Wiimote could ever hope to deliver. And the world lost its friggin’ mind. Suddenly people who had no interest in gaming had a way to channel their inner rock star without feeling like some pimply-faced teen or the pressure to be Teh Pwnerer; it was just a fun piece of kit that…

Rockstar releases Red Dead Redemption launch trailer

The more I see of this game, the more I can’t wait to play it! While there have been many attempts before to create a ‘Western’ themed game, none of them have pulled it off successfully, however this game, a ‘Grand Theft Auto in the Old West’, looks like it could change that. Early impressions of the game posted today at Kotaku are good, and it looks like this game will be a must buy for 360 and PS3 owners. Hopefully, like Rockstar San Diego’s other franchise Midnight Club, there…

Don’t turn on your PS3 for now: UPDATE – fixed

The widespread PS3 errors have been narrowed down, as expected, to a clock-related bug, at least that’s what Sony believes. In short, if you own an older “phat” PS3 (aka not the Slim), Sony is recommending that you do not turn on the console at all untill they announce a fix. So if you were planning on heading home today and firing up Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2, or watch a BluRay, you’re going to have to hold out just a little bit longer. We believe we have identified that this…
