Federal court kills Tory Wind Mobile decision

It’s been a busy week for the Federal government and the CRTC.  The latest is that Federal Court judge Roger Hughes has struck down 2009 Tory decision to overrule the CRTC when it comes to Globalive, best known as new mobile carrier Wind Mobile.  The appeal to Federal Court was launched by new entrant rival Public Mobile, which claimed that the government had overstepped its bounds in allowing Wind to launch even though it didn’t meet CRTC Canadian ownership regulations. The judge has instituted a 45 day stay, which lets…

Dell Streak ‘Pocket Tablet’ launches on Rogers

The Dell Streak. What an interesting journey this odd device has had. Originally previewed by Dell as far back as CES in January, this 5” Android phone launched in Europe in June. Initial enthusiasm for this device was dulled by the fact that Dell inexplicably decided to launch it with Android 1.6, but the overall consensus was that the hardware was well made, and it would have potential with an OS upgrade. Then, after much confusion about whether Dell would sell it unlocked in the US, the Streak launched in…

Telus launches Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate at Gaming Expo today

With the Holidays just around the corner the release of new phones is almost a daily occurrence. Only two days after the big Windows Phone 7 launch Telus is adding another Android phone to their already impressive line-up of little green robots – the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+. The Telus Fascinate (not to be confused with the US only Verizon Fascinate that is slightly different) is basically the same phone as the Bell Galaxy S Vibrant that we looked at a few months ago here, the only change being…

Gateway introduces new All-in-One ZX One PC

Just like their sister company Acer, Gateway has announced the release of a new all-in-one PC design, the ZX One series. The category of all-in-one PC’s has been growing rapidly as consumers are looking for cost effective, space saving computers that can handle every day productivity and home entertainment. While the first generation of all-in-one PC’s were a little under-powered, the price vs. performance ratio of the newest PC components means that the latest models have much better performance. The Gateway One series feature a curved bottom edge to make…

Telus the first to blink, announces Canadian Windows Phone 7 pricing

Usually Telus likes to play their cards close to their chest, so I was a little surprised that Telus was the first Canadian carrier to officially announce pricing for Windows Phone 7 handsets. The North American launch is next Monday, and in the US the price for all the models is going to be $199 on a 2-year term. Since Canadians have long been used to getting the short end of the stick, I assumed that the Canadian price would be the same, just on a 3-year term. While we…

Telus Android news round-up

Over the past week there has been some interesting Android news from Telus, and we’ve collected it all in one place, just for you. HTC Desire Android 2.2 (Froyo) update available now Telus has announced that the 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire is being pushed out today through an OTA (over the air) update.  This is after a couple of false starts last week, when the update was released as a download online, then quickly pulled. Even without the update, the Desire is already in our opinion one…

Windows Phone 7 in Canada: What We Know So Far

Today marked the big reveal of Microsoft’s reboot of it’s mobile strategy with Windows Phone 7. At 9.30 AM EST Microsoft finally pulled the covers off for the world to see the initial phones that will be available at launch (November 8th in North America), though much of the OS has already been shown in great detail prior to today. My first reaction was that the handset selection is a little slim, and there is not much innovation beyond the base ‘chassis 1’ specifications. However this is a launch of…

Best Worst Movie screening tomorrow

Last year, Michael Paul Stephenson released Best Worst Movie, a documentary about the making of 1990’s Troll 2, and the cult following it’s garnered over the years. If you’re one of the (un?)fortunate souls who rented Troll 2 back in the day, you know it sits in that hallowed realm of movies so bad it’s good, and is probably best experienced with a crowd of like-minded individuals who can handle a good portion of cheese in their cinematic diet.  I’ll have to admit that I never made it all the…

Sony Ericsson X-10 Mini unboxing and short review

A couple of weeks ago, before the craziness of Fan Expo and TIFF, Sony Ericsson was kind enough to send us the new Xperia X10 Mini for us to review. In the video above you can see our un-boxing of the phone, and a short review, where I go over the main features of what they claim is the ‘The worlds smallest Android phone’. The X10 Mini was also recently awarded ‘European Mobile Phone 2010-2011’ by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Please note that while shooting the video…
