Spike & Mike’s Sick and Twisted hits Cineplex

By Doug Groves on 6 Mar 2011

If you like animation, but haven’t heard of Spike & Mike, I’d be surprised. Their Festival of Animation has been running in various formats since the mid 1970′s, and has introduced animation fans to a number of artists that later went on to bigger things, such as Mike Judge, who’s “Frog Baseball” featured an early version of Beavis & Butthead, Bill Plympton (a personal favourite), Trey Parker and Matt Stone and many others.  In short, Spike and Mike know good animation, and love sharing it.

In the past, the touring festival used to play one more or less one theatre at a time.  Back in the day, it was well worth the trip to the Bloor Cinema to catch it.  Now that digital distribution makes things easier, Spike & Mike have teamed up with Cineplex, as part of the Front Row & Centre series of events, to show the festival on 26 screens across the country.  The first screening was on March 2nd, but if you missed it, Sick and Twisted returns tomorrow night, March 7th.  If the name doesn’t give it away, you can expect a decidedly dark but fun time.

To see if it’s playing near you, you can check the show listings here.
